S9 starts with a firefam gathering at Athena’s house. The whole team, plus Karen and Maddie and the kids. Including the newest Han baby. Everyone is dancing around, eating together and generally being merry. Athena is setting up some appetizers on the table. Ravi is bartending, Buck brought a slew of baked goods. Maddie and Chim are dancing together, twirling each other. Eddie is dorky dad dancing with Christopher. Harry and Denny are playing a game together. Hen and Karen are talking about Mara needing back to school clothes and May offers to take her shopping.
We hear the faintest sound of Hozier’s “Work Song” playing in the background, a little crackly like it’s coming from a record player. Suddenly, Bobby comes in off the back porch with a tray of barbecued goods. He distributes hot dogs and burgers and joins the festivities.
Everyone is happy. Nobody is surprised to see him.
We (the audience) assume someone on the team is dreaming. Maybe Athena, possibly Buck. They’re both there, looking happy. It would make sense…but then suddenly we’re in a government lab.
And Bobby is on a hospital bed, just waking up.
Someone in a lab coat comes in and takes his vitals. They make a comment about how they’re glad to see he’s finally awake.
Cut to the 9-1-1 opening sequence.
