I've decided to characterize "Amaurotine" (as the ancestor of Allagan and the languages of the First) as having a regular root structure: C(V)C(V)C. Each root must contain at least one vowel. The names we see of Amaurotine characters are in fact the Allagan forms, for example athavaj -> lahabrea tɛwðlafon -> dewdalafon ðelxtivuθ -> elidibus xmfatðelx -> emetsélk In spoken Amaurotine, schwas are inserted to break up hard clusters, for example, ðelxtivuθ may have been pronounced ðelxətivuθ (and hence the -i- in Elidibus). Amaurotine roots are verbal; this is the form of Amaurotine spoken during Hermes' time as Fandaniel. Nouns and adjectives are usually derived from these verbal roots (with some exceptions such as kinship terms). For example, ðemh "to wander, roam, travel (for the sake of the journey)" becomes aðemh "wanderer, the Traveler, Azem" by the addition of the a- prefix, which functions like the English -er suffix. a- is the most advanced of a series of irregular weakenings of the original prefix, fat- (hence fa-d- in fandanjel), to hat-, at-, and finally a-. * Combinations of two base verb roots are often used as names or other nominals in their own right. For example, ðelxtivuθ = ðelx "to resolve an issue, to right things" (hence also xmfatðelx, where it expands to "to redeem (someone)") + tivuθ "to make a treaty, agreement, compromise" * The Amaurotine word for planet, atlhaθ-watðemh, is derived identically to the Greek idiom "wandering star", through influence of the general concept of "wandering" or "roaming" and the association between Azem and the sun. However, it is usually truncated to atlhaθ "star" rather than a form of ðemh, and atlhaθ is used to refer to Etheirys as well. Yes, this is all to explain the unusual use of "star" to refer to any planet in FFXIV's universe.
