Xylion was busy writing down different things he was observing while checking the ship. It was routine. Every morning, right at the same time, he'd get up and check the ship out. However, today something was off. He noticed a few of the human crew members sneaking around the hallways, carrying a bunch of bright colored papers and other things. One even ran by with a bag of 'flour' and a box of 'eggs'. He was confused, and finally was able to stop Human Jenny, one of the crew members. "Human Jenny, what is going on here?" He asked, shifting one of his appendages around to point to where everyone was heading. Human Jenny's mouth widened, showing off all the white things they called teeth. "We are throwing a surprise party for Mason!" Xylion frowned. "What is that?" "I'll show you!" Human Jenny bounced towards the direction everyone had been heading in, and Xylion followed. When they reached the place where everything was, he saw the two other Human crew members hanging the colorful papers and other things all around Human Mason's cabin. "What are you doing?" Xylion asked, observing the mess. Human Isaac frowned. "You mean you don't know what a birthday party is?" "And a surprise one at that?" Human Fredrick asked, blinking at Xylion. Xylion knew what a birth date was. But a birth date party? And they called it Birthday... "No, we don't celebrate birth dates." Human Isaac jumped down the ladder he was on. The brightly colored papers were hanging from the ceiling. Their purpose? Unknown. "Well, we celebrate it and today happens to be Mason's birthday! And it's a surprise one, 'cause he doesn't know we are doing this." Human Isaac said, throwing his hands up in the air. "So he has no idea you are celebrating his birth date?" "Not in a party way, no." Human Jenny said, looking at the decorations. Human Fredrick looked towards Jenny. "The cake should almost be done, can you go get it it and frost it?" Human Jenny nodded and hurried off, leaving Xylion alone with the other two crew members. "Cake?" "It's a dessert, Xylion." Human Isaac said, grabbing some more papers and climbing up the ladder once more. Human Fredrick nodded as he grabbed a string with colorful flaps of paper on it. "Say, can you help me with this?" He asked, holding a side of the sting out. Xylion grabbed it and held it while Human Fredrick hung his side up. "What are these?" Xylion asked. "Decorations." Human Isaac answered as he hung some more paper up. Human Fredrick moved down the string and hung up the middle of it right above Human Mason's cabin door. He then scooted over once more and grabbed the end from Xylion and hung it up. "What purpose do they serve?" "None whatsoever, but they look pretty." Human Fredrick said as he too showed his white things they called teeth. Xylion was about to question the purpose of them when Human Jenny walked over and set a colorful shape on a table they set up. Human Jenny wiped her brow and grinned. "Not the best cake ever, but it's pretty good considering we had limited time to purchase the supplies." Human Isaac jumped down the ladder once more and folded it up. "I'm going to go out this Away. Fred, can you go grab the gifts?" "Gifts?" Xylion asked, looking towards Human Isaac. "It's a special thing we get someone for their birthday. Like, a new shirt or something. Typically it's better than that, but you never know. Depends on how well you know the person." Human Jenny said as Human Isaac walked off with the ladder. Xylion nodded as Human Fredrick walked back over with three bags. Each was colorful and paper bursted out of it. He set it down on the table and turned towards the door. "Now, we wait." Xylion nodded as he too turned to the door. It seemed like ages before the door clicked open, and it began to slide open. Human Mason stood there, and his eyes widened slightly when he saw the colorful packages and decoration. All the human crew members jumped forward and shouted "Surprise!" Human Mason grinned and laughed. "You guys did all this for me?" Xylion felt joy fill him as he watched them talk excitedly to one another. Humans were odd creatures, but they sure helped one another out.
