M’kel
I wanted to write another alien!Michael...
It’s a bit long. And boring. And with some sensible subjects. So I’m sorry !
She did not know. How could she have guessed ? For (Y/N), Michael was just a lost young boy, about ten years old, whom she had found injured, in the field next to her house. He looked a little scared at first, and they couldn't communicate because he spoke in a language she didn't know, but he still agreed to follow her when the rain started to fall. Nobody asked a question, since the young (Y/N) was often alone at home. Her father had left before her birth. Her mother was caught between her work and the men who were breaking her heart over and over again. Even if she was a child, (Y/N) knew that she should have called the police, to say that she had found an abandoned boy, but she could not say why, she preferred to wait a little, to try to understand what had happened to him. Plus she was happy to have some company. His name was not really Michael. What he said pointing his finger at him sounded more like 'M-kel', but it was not a first name for her, so she kept saying "Michael, Michael, Michael", until he sighed, accepting this new name. When he was healed, she gave him food and drink and he seemed fascinated by what was in his plate. Then he inspected the house, admiring the few technological objects they had. Sometimes he would say things with a voice full of excitement, pointing to the television or the light bulbs. (Y/N) wondered if he was poor, or if he came from a country where they did not yet have all this. They stayed together for a week without her mother spotting the intruder and without anyone appearing to be looking for him. It was easy because it was December Christmas holidays, so (Y/N) didn't have to go to school and could stay with him. Several times, she tried to teach him words, she showed him books, pictures, videos, which he watched with interest, but never he seemed to understand. He was afraid when the snow fell, trembling at night from the cold and sticking to her in the bed to warm up. Except for his name and his angelic face, (Y/N) knew nothing about Michael but her child's heart started to beat for him. Her first love. Timidly, she showed him romantic movies and he winced when the couples kissed. She wanted to try it once, but he moved away quickly, visibly embarrassed. (Y/N) was sad but she did not insist, promising not to start again, even if he did not understand what she was saying. It had been seven days when, in the middle of the night, a woman entered the bedroom, speaking the same language as Michael. He was going to get up to follow her but (Y/N) grabbed his t-shirt, crying, asking him if he was going to come back. He looked at her for a long time, then looked at the woman, said something, seemed disappointed with the answer and turned to kiss (Y/N) on the head with a sad smile before leaving. For more than ten years, she never saw him again, without ever forgetting him. Time passed, life went on, humans progressing in many areas, and getting worse in others, between inequality, wars, disease, pollution and climate disasters. This lasted until the arrival of the UFOs. They surrounded the Earth and no weapon seemed to be able to destroy them. No communication, they remained in orbit, without moving, causing everyone to panic. Then a light was projected near a small town in the middle of a field and a man appeared. Tall, blond with blue eyes, he was magnificent, he looked like an angel, and many wondered if it was his real appearance or if he looked like that to fool them. When he spoke, his voice made them all tremble.
"My name is M'kel. I come from a galaxy very far from yours, and normally we do not come into contact with civilizations that do not deserve it. You are a dangerous species, who kill each other, kill other species and its own planet. This is not our problem, but you start looking up to the sky, to find a new home before yours is completely destroyed. We do not want you to touch any other habitat only to tarnish it again. I'm here to assess you and make you understand that your only chance is here. Accept to listen to me, agree to stay, to change, and everything will be fine. Don't accept and we will have to annihilate you, to preserve the rest of the world. You have seven days."
Immediately, the humans were upset by this speech, many wanted to attack the alien, but he seemed to have supernatural powers, because no one could approach him, repelled by a strange force. Weapons did nothing to him. If someone insulted him, they suddenly couldn't breathe. Even more annoyed, the humans began to fight among themselves, because some wanted to listen to the alien, while others wanted him to leave. M'kel let them act like children for several minutes, before raising his hand, silencing them all.
"I wish to see (Y/N)." he declared.
"... who ?"
"(Y/N)."
"Uh... You only have a name ? Nothing else ? There are a lot of (Y/N)..."
"I want to see (Y/N)."
Not knowing if this would give them a better chance of survival or not, the humans agreed to seek this (Y/N) quickly, the journalists relaying the information. Many women came forward, impostors, idiots, opportunists. This made them lose a whole day, and a bit of their hope, because with each new meeting with a false (Y/N) seemed to lower the patience of M-kel. As the leaders apologized in the hallway, they were interrupted by someone who was talking to the building secretary.
"Michael ! Michael, is that you ?!"
M'kel, or Michael, the name astonished the humans present, turned to the young woman who was approaching, a broad smile on her face and eyes full of tears.
"You came back ! I didn't know if you would come back. I didn't know who this woman was, I didn't understand what she was saying. Was she your mother ? Are you okay ? I... Sorry, I'm talking a lot, but I'm so glad to see you again, I..."
(Y/N) was silent when Michael took her in his arms. Nobody expected him to do that. Later, he explained to her that he had studied human customs a lot and that it was normal to hug someone who you were happy to see again. Since he was happy to find her, he took her in his arms. She was the only one he touched, who could touch him, and the only one who had the right to call him "Michael". For the others, the alien growled, recalling that his actual name was "M'kel". It turned out that his species was terribly logical. There was little, sometimes not even at all, room for feelings in their decisions. So it seemed that, even if he liked (Y/N), he would be a completely impartial judge, who always risked killing everyone at the end of the week. The leaders begged (Y/N) to help them. Not knowing what to do, she turned to Michael.
"I want you to stay with me." he said simply. "Show me how your people work."
Her presence was very useful, because there were many things, many behaviours, which Michael did not understand. He did not understand the wars, there was no conflict on his planet. He did not understand the judgments on appearance, gender, skin, hair, height, weight. He did not understand the rejection of the difference. He did not understand religions at all. He did not see why everyone wanted their ideas and peculiarities to be judged better than those of others, considering that they had to become the norm and that everyone had to follow them.
"Is everyone the same on your planet ?" asked (Y/N). "They have the same bodies, opinions, they never fight ?"
"There are debates, every day. None of us is the same, neither physically nor internally. But we know that it is useless to shout or strike to discuss. Everything is settled quickly with logic. We also know that we are all equal. We have the same rights, the same duties, even if we are different. The leaders are leaders because they are smarter than the others, their powers are superior, but that does not mean that their lives are more valuable or that they have more rights."
"And... why did they send you ? Because you are beautiful and white ?"
"Beautiful ? White ? I don't understand."
"You are very beautiful Michael. People listen to people who are beautiful, even if they don't always say clever things. And... most powerful men here are white. They mostly listen to white people. That's why they choose you ?"
"No. They chose me because I have been here before and I am the most powerful, so I can defend myself. These criteria are ridiculous."
"I... Sorry."
"Don't apologize. I asked you to tell me how humans are and act. And you have the right to find me beautiful. It's just that it doesn't matter to us. What is important is in there." he said, touching her forehead.
The other thing that mighty men were, Michael soon discovered, was greedy. Money was the most important thing to them, and when he calmly explained to them that if they gave up all their plans to conquer space, then his mission was no longer necessary, they got angry, saying that these projects had been very expensive and that they could not abandon them like that. (Y/N) was outraged at hearing this.
"They're going to condemn humanity... for not losing money ? I don't know what to say Michael. It's... Most humans are not like that, you know. We are not perfect, but if you ask them, many will agree to leave the universe, if it can save them."
"Why elect these people, if you know they don't think like you ?"
"It is complicated."
"You often say that."
"Yes... But it's true ! Normally, our leaders must follow us, the people, it's supposed to work that way, but in reality... They often do what they want when they have power. Because humans are always a little selfish and when they have the opportunity to get rich, they do it, despite the consequences. But not everyone is like that, I swear ! And to avoid disasters, we often change heads."
"We always keep the same, until they are too old or they die."
"Sorry not to be perfect like you. But, please Michael, don't judge all humans based solely on them."
He was not, (Y/N) knew it and yet she was scared. Because even if Michael could see all the good things they were doing, the good deeds, the empathy, the friendship, the love, he also saw all the bad, which were numerous, daily, and so terrible that they easily made you forget the good ones. Like children, humans could be innocent, but they were mostly capricious. They didn't like orders, they didn't like restrictions, they didn't like a lot of things. Michael began to doubt that they would accept his requests, even if they were logical and that it would save them. They were saying yes, nodding at what he was explaining, but right after that, they added "but". "And what if". "However". The only one who listened to him while really trying to understand was (Y/N). Yes, she was also trying to save humans, but when Michael said something that could not be contradicted, she accepted it with a sad pout. These were the only times when the alien displayed an ounce of feeling, taking her hand or kissing her cheek, as if to apologize for the harm he was doing to her, a necessary harm, for the good of the rest of the galaxy. The week passed very quickly, without anyone having any real hope as the UFOs continued to fly over the Earth.
"Michael... The last time... You also came to judge us ?"
"No. It was an accident. We were watching your planet from a distance, because you started to create weapons and to travel, but since you did not go beyond your satellite, you were not a threat. The ship in which I was had been hit by an asteroid, I was the only one to survive, thanks to a rescue shuttle in which my father placed me... and thanks to you, who took me in."
Michael looked moved, but she couldn't say if it was because he was thinking of his father, or because he was angry with himself, for destroying her planet when she had saved his life. He continued.
"You allowed me to learn some things about humans, which I continued to study after I left. And when you became dangerous, I was asked my opinion on the matter. I replied that I didn't have enough data, so they sent me. We could have destroyed you right away, but we still give smart species a chance. Or, more precisely, species that can understand us."
"Michael..." she whispered. "Everyone is waiting outside. I... I already know what decision you made, I understand why, but... Please."
"I gave them a week."
"I know. And I know that we are sometimes stupid and dangerous. I'm not asking you to think with your head now, but with your heart. I... I don't want humans to die. I don't want to die."
Michael watched her cry without seeming to understand, before slowly hugging her to rock her, trying to console her.
"You are not going to die."
"You said... You said you were going to kill us. That you were going to destroy the Earth."
"First, I did say that I had to destroy the human species, but the Earth and the other animals that live there will remain. Then I said that I wanted you to stay with me. You are not going to die. I was not allowed to take you the last time, but I explained to my people that I wanted you and they agreed to accommodate."
(Y/N)'s first reaction was relief, her gut telling her to accept without question. But she couldn't do that. She couldn't follow Michael, even though she loved him more and more every day, listening to him talk about his planet, say smart things, his face lighting up when he was seeing that she was paying attention. It would not be possible for her to watch her world disappear without reacting.
"I can not..."
"Don't you want to come ? Don't you want me ?"
"I want ! But I can't leave. It wouldn't be okay. If you have to kill humans, so you have to kill me too. I'm sorry. I love you but, even if they don't all deserve it, not always, I also love my species. We are capable of doing very beautiful things. We can change, we can do better. Isn't there another solution ? Can't you use your technology and your powers to prevent us from going into space ? So we would no longer be a threat. Well, just for our own planet. But maybe your visit will really make them think and they will eventually stop their nonsense."
"They were wrong."
"W... What ? Who ?"
"My people. They were wrong. They said I was crazy for wanting you, because you were certainly like the others, but they were wrong. You know humans are not perfect, you understand my mission, but you are so pure that you want to give them a chance no matter what. You are even ready to die with them when I offer you to come with me. I can do what you ask. But only if you agree to follow me and stay with me. (Y/N), come with me. "
"Michael... yes."
In a second, the UFOs disappeared, as if they had never been there, and when the leaders came to ask what was going on to M'kel, he and (Y/N) had also evaporated. At the same time, all the astronauts who were in the space station were transported to Earth without any explanation and contact with the devices was broken, as if they had never been there. Only some satellites continued to work, not depriving them of radio, television or Internet. After that, every time humans tried to take off a space rocket, nothing wanted to work. They were nailed to the ground. Planes could fly, but the sky was the limit. M'kel's words echoed in the minds of all humans, who quickly understood that he was responsible for this, he had not killed them, but he had forbidden them to leave Earth. No planet B, it was now a certainty. They were going to have to pay attention to the one they had. On the other side of the galaxy, (Y/N) discovered Michael's world, warmly welcomed by his people, who remained suspicious all the same, because she was human and therefore possibly changing in nature. Michael didn't care, delighted to finally have her by his side, after having waited for years, dreaming of rain, kiss and snow. There were no rain nor snow on his planet. Only her, his dear saviour, and her sweet kisses.
