I've read a few of her other books and i just love her style of writing, better than a lot of other fantasy authors books.

I highly recommend if you're interested in fantasy books :)

The Lady of Mercia's ill-fated affair with Erik Thurgilson ended years ago. Now her army often finds itself opposite his in battle. After a skirmish, when Aldhelm proposes terms for negotiation with his lady's former lover, the diplomatic solution takes a surprising form.

Erik bares his teeth with a smile, and Aldhelm finds his mind wandering to the place it had been when the retreat had been called. The tension that hangs between them now is similar—even more intense, perhaps—but profoundly different too. He feels his pulse speed up the longer they stare at each other, resists the temptation to rub his hand along the back of his neck, refuses to admit defeat with any minor twitch or tic.

“Perhaps I can convince you another way,” Erik says, leaning closer until Aldhelm smells a musk of sweat and leather distinct from his own. His eyes, absent the sun's light, have turned a deep sea blue.

Aldhelm clears his throat. “I will consider negotiation, should you offer any,” he replies archly. "Perhaps your cleverness has gone unnoticed until now."

“You will find me clever enough,” Erik laughs, nostrils flared. There is an edge to his voice, but it’s not animosity.
