" If i'm a civilian, I call 911. I let the police do their job." Jamie said. " If i'm off duty, and I see a crime in progress. I always call it in. Call for backup. And I make a decision about whether or not it's prudent to wait. In a case like this, i would have waited for backup. A purse can be replaced. People can't. Bystanders could have gotten hurt. There was no immediate threat to civilians. We can access security cameras, traffic cams. We could find the guy. That's what police work is." Jamie said.
“This wasn’t just about a purse,” Sara replied, “He’d already tossed a woman to the ground like a rag doll. And bystanders getting hurt - does this count?” She gestured to her chest and then held up her arm, both an angry shade of red with blisters that continued to appear with each passing minute. “I didn’t want him to mow anyone else down. And yeah, security cameras, traffic cams, they’re all great, but it’s a big city. If you know it, if you have any idea of what you’re doing, it’s really easy to disappear.” A beat passed before she added, “You didn’t answer my question, by the way. You’re off the clock. Someone is about to get hurt - or worse, are you really taking the time to call in for backup? Just gonna stand back and watch? Because somehow, I doubt it. And neither would I.”
Part of you is always traveling faster, always traveling ahead. Even when you are moving, it is never fast enough to satisfy that part of you.
– Kelly Link, from “Travels with the Snow Queen,” Stranger Things Happen (Small Beer Press, 2001)
It was refreshing to meet someone who didn't care about counting calories or just took the simply pleasure os eating tasty foods that may not be the healthiest options. She smiles brightly at Sara's comments about eating whatever we wanted. Still that nagging voice in the back of her mind reminds her to not over indulge too much. "You know what, you're right. Life is short to be worried about added pounds. This is well worth it." Margo held up her last piece of her donut before popping it in her mouth. Her brows lifted at the mention of sara being in bar fights. "Oh wow really? What are you some kind of martial artist or something? Also that's crazy if guys start fights with you, why on earth would they do that anyway?" Maybe she was in law enforcement or someone who others often underestimated. It definitely had her curious as to who this woman was. When sara had guess correctly about what she does for a living, margo smiles sheepishly. "That obvious huh? Yep you would be correct, I'm a reporter for about two years now. Oh well I'm sure you are gonna like it here. I Maybe biased cause I live here in new york, all my life actually. So what do you do for a living sara?"
“It is beyond worth it,” Sara replied before taking another giant bite. As for Margo’s questions about her being a martial artist, and why guys would start fights with her, she finished taking another drink of her coffee before answering, “Something like that. And they’re not always necessarily starting fights with me. Sometimes they’re starting fights with other people just because they can. Because they’ve found someone that is smaller and assumed to be weaker and decide to take out whatever issues they have on them. I just even out the odds.” Then she asked if it was that obvious that she was a reporter, and Sara pointed out, “Not a lot of other reasons to be hanging around the local new station. I mean, I guess you could be a camera operator or something but... You ask questions like a reporter. You’re curious, you’re trying to put the pieces together so you can see the bigger picture.” And while she’d been hiding who she really was for a long time and was exceptionally good at it, she’d still make a point of being extra careful about what she said around the other woman. “I’ve been here before, but I’ve never really gotten a chance to enjoy it. I’ve always just been passing through. And I’m a nomad. Take on odd jobs - just enough to keep gas in my tank and food in my stomach.”

"He's still out there. I don't have many allies, yet.. I don't know what will happen if I go back, or if he'll come here or what. I have two universes, two worlds to protect now. And myself of course, but I'm failing at that." Gordon laughed in incredious disbelief. "If I was brought here, it meant I was safe. I had somewhere to rest, or there was someone who either needed me, or I needed them or vice versa. For more reasons than just saving the world. Like friendship. Or maybe that universe, the one I'm from can't be saved."
“I don’t understand,” Sara replied with a shake of her head as she taped down the last of the gauze, “I thought your brother assembled a team to stop him? But what you’re saying now implies he’s far from stopped. And this Earth has... It has been through more than enough, it can’t handle anymore battles; it’s still trying to recover from the last one. We all are.” She shook her head in confusion, “You’re not making any sense. You were brought here because you’re safe - but he could come here. You’re talking about protecting two universes, but then you’re questioning whether yours can even be saved.” A beat passed before she added, “You need an ally, you need someone who can fight - I’ll do it. I don’t understand what I’m up against, but that’s nothing new. Still it all circles back to this universe? Off limits. We fight to save yours or - if it’s past saving - to at least destroy whoever this guy is.”
With Constantine coming on the show is there a chance that Sara might get a hosen tattoo like Oliver has so she can counter Darhk’s magic?
Oliver listened and tried not to bristle at the even tone as she tried to assure him that she wasn't pulling away. As she spoke about how she had been in survival mode and about how the boys had been living, not just since he had left with the Monitor but back when he had been in prison. Some of it had been able to be seen back then but he'd managed to fit himself back in to the routine. Now? It seemed her system for handling everything that had been left on her didn't have much room for error. Or intrusion. He mentally filed away the information about the boys' nightmares and how her system didn't seem to leave her with much time to sleep herself. "You did. Now I'm trying to figure out where I fit," and the distance and doubt that clawed at him weren't helping.
The doubt still tried to dig deeper as Sara's features went blank. That had never been a good sign even before prison and the Monitor. Yet he forced himself to listen and remind himself that she wouldn't lie to him, not when she was insisting that their family was done with lies. "I'm sorry. With everything that happened before Crisis..." he trailed off. Some of what he had been through had made it hard to believe that being back wasn't another form of test or form of hell created by the Monitor, "and then we didn't have time to talk about home. It's hard."
"I know there's a system and I know you want to focus on the boys...but we need this too, Sara." He needed her and, he was pretty sure, she needed him too.
“I think we’re all trying to figure out where we fit, how things are going to shift and adjust again,” Sara told him, “And while I’m sure you’re sick of hearing it, it’s just going to take time. The boys have had their lives upended over and over and over again. Every time that things started to settle, that they developed any sense of normalcy or even just a routine - everything would come crashing down around them, and they would have to rebuild it all in new and completely different ways.” She paused before adding, “I shielded them, and I know you did, too, but... Despite doing everything we could, we just couldn’t shield them from that.” They couldn’t shield them from the time Oliver wasn’t there or from his death. William had to deal with losing not one but two parents, being left with Sara who wanted to do right by him so badly, but was constantly terrified that she wasn’t. And Connor... He just couldn’t understand any of it, no matter how hard he tried. So as much as they were all glad that Oliver was back - the one thing they’d all wanted more than anything in the world - it didn’t erase what had occurred or what had to be done to survive it.
“I know you are,” Sara quietly replied. And she genuinely believed that he was. It didn’t change the fact that he’d gone to prison without discussing anything with her. That he had made the choice to sacrifice himself without coming to her, without trying to find another way that wouldn’t leave their boys without a father. That wouldn’t leave her without a husband. But she couldn’t say any of that, so she just remained focused on his words. “We do. I just feel like the best way forward is to start small. Give the boys - and you - these much-needed celebrations and then build things out from there, slowly adjusting and shifting things around again as we go. I’m trying to strike a balance, that’s all.”
“True friends are those rare people who come to find you in dark places and lead you back to the light.”
— Steven Aitchison
"Why not?" Even without looking up from his task, Carter's tone was cool and sharp. With his gloved fingers applying pressure to her femoral artery, he finally dignified her with eye contact, his expression grim as he prodded, "Why won't you seek justice? This person could hurt others too, Sara. You have to know this."
Sara was adamant. "I need it to stay between us. Please, John.”
Rolling his lips together into a thin, disapproving line, he shook his head before muttering, "Fine. If it's that important, I'll keep my mouth shut. For now."
Mercifully, she didn't fight him on much else. Sara rose and sank upon his bed, turning to lift her leg until her foot was propped against the wall.
"I didn't notice any exit wound," Carter said, pulling up a chair to get a better look. "That means the bullet must be lodged somewhere inside...and I must warn you that this will hurt. If you need to bite into something, feel free to use my pillow."
Fetching a sterilized pair of forceps, he leaned in close before lifting his hand. "I already see it," he announced, relief tinging his voice. "That's good...I won't have to do any major digging around. I'll go ahead and apply some lidocaine too, but I'm afraid the area won't be completely numb for a couple minutes -- a couple minutes that we don't have time to waste."
Carter felt terrible that he couldn't just wave a wand and take away her discomfort. Even if Sara had a high tolerance for pain, that didn't mean she should tolerate it.
With the injection given around her wound, he set to work on fishing the bullet out of her leg. First, he removed bits of cloth fibers from her pants, which had embedded themselves into her wound, before he grabbed hold of the slug with his forceps. "Got it," he promised. Glancing up at Sara, he added, "Are you okay?"
Sara didn’t say anything. She couldn’t tell him what happened, she couldn’t explain that the responsible person - or people, rather - were currently unconscious and tied up, waiting to be picked up by the local police. Instead, she simply remained silent until he told her he would keep his mouth shut for now, which prompted her to counter, “No. No, it has to be for good, I have to know that I can trust you.” A beat passed before she added, “Trust is... really difficult for me. I trust you, Carter. Please don’t take that away from me.” She then shook her head, “I told you that there wasn’t one. That every time I tried to dig the bullet out myself - I kept hitting something, I kept bleeding harder.” As for his warning that what was coming next was going to hurt, and that she could bite down into his pillow, she simply shook her head, “It’s all right. Do what you have to do.”
After that, he was retrieving a pair of forceps, shortly after announcing he could see the bullet, and she could hear the relief in his voice. That hit her harder than she expected. That he cared that much about her pain, or about how much damage the bullet had potentially done. Although she supposed that was part of why she ultimately chose to come here. Because for reasons she, admittedly, had a hard time understanding, he did seem to genuinely care about her. His words brought her out of her thoughts, and she reassured him, “Like I said, do what you have to do.” And as he went through the process of injecting the lidocaine, removing debris, and retrieving the bullet, she didn’t move. She didn’t make a sound. Even her facial features remained blank. Then he finally glanced up to ask her if she was okay, and she managed to nod as she confirmed, “I’m okay...” However, her pale face and the sweat breaking out all over her body said otherwise.

"I wanted to see what Gordon saw in you, why he's so concerned about you." Cain said honestly. "We like to look out for friends, and it seems like you could use more of them, even though you try to hide behind a facade."
He paused.
"Yes Gordon sent me, Sara. He was worried about you."
Sara slowly nodded, leaning back against the bar as she crossed her arms at her chest, “And do you see it?” She then pointed out, “You assume we’re friends. I don’t know you - I don’t even know if you are who you claim to be.” As for his facade comment, she ignored it. He knew nothing about her, or why she acted the way that she did, so there was no point in having a discussion about it. “If Gordon did send you, why is he so worried?” Was this general worry? Or was this a ‘the world is ending’ - again - kind of worry? And, either way, why didn’t he just come to see her himself?
This photo is hilarious to me
Matt and Caity have the exact same expression on their faces and they look like weird twins who are Up To No Good.
Bran knew that Sara could read him better than most people. Yes, he kept a lot to himself, but that wasn't only related to her. He just kept his feelings at bay the best by not talking about it. It was a way to cope, certainly while Sara had been gone. "Ok..." He murmured when Sara told him that she was there for him now if he wanted to talk. He wasn't going to any time soon, but it was good to know that he could once he was ready. He chuckled when she told him that he couldn't be worse than her last boss. "Good, then I don't have to make much of an effort." Bran grinned against her skin. "Am I being too much?" He asked a bit more cautiously.
“It’s okay,” Sara quietly murmured back, “I know how hard it can be to discuss certain things, or to just... talk in general sometimes. There’s a lot I haven’t said. Some things I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to say...” Not because she was trying to hide anything from Bran or anyone else, but because she honestly didn’t know how to put words to parts of her life. Or because she didn’t know how to let those parts exist outside of herself. “...So while I do think we need to discuss this eventually - for the sake of our relationship - my point is we do it on your timetable, all right?” She then shook her head, a huff of air escaping her lips as she agreed, “You really don’t. I just - I might need time. Not a lot, I’ve never been good at sitting on the sidelines for long, but... I’d say coming back from the dead is more of an adjustment than I thought it would be, but I have absolutely nothing to compare it to.” After that, he was asking if he was being too much, and she replied, “What do you mean - when you’re touching me? No. No, it’s just... It’s like brand new skin. Tender. Sensitive. Which could be a bad thing, but in this instance? Definitely not...”
Kim Addonizio, from Wild Nights: New & Selected Poems; “Candy Heart Valentine”
The look on Sara's face and the tears welling up in her eyes had Oliver second guessing everything. Again. Had he misread everything?
Despite what his question had made her feel, she had managed to answer the one he couldn't bring himself to voice when she held up her wedding band and told him that it was forever, dead or alive. But his question was out there now. His own eyes stung as he spoke, "It's felt like you've been pulling away from me ever since I got back. I've barely been able to hold your hand. I had to beg you to come to bed last night and ever since I woke up, everything I've tried to do has just made you angry. So angry that you hurt yourself and you wouldn't even let me help you get cleaned up. Then the idea of celebrating our marriage," he motioned to the wedding band on her hand, the one that matched the one he had worn even at the end of the world, "was too much?"
"I know that I screwed up," the deal with the Monitor had managed to save their friends that day but had cost him...them...so much more, "but the idea that you don't...that the deal or Crisis was the last straw and that all you want is for me to be here solely for the boys..." He swallowed hard.
"That is too much..."
Sara’s tone was even, “I haven’t been pulling away from you. I have been in survival mode since the Monitor came and, before that, since you were in prison. I am in charge of raising and teaching two boys, one of whom is a genius and that I have to get help with because - at the rate he’s going - he’s going to be graduating from high school. I am in charge of running an entire house by myself. I go out as the Canary at night, but still make sure that I’m here for when Connor wakes up from nightmares, screaming because the bad man is coming to take him away, too. Or because William - who refuses to even admit he’s having them as well - is found wandering the house at all hours. And aside from you telling Connor that Diggle healed your scars, especially after I’ve made it very clear that this family is done with lies, I haven’t been angry. I found a system for us, I have fought to keep all of us going, and you’re asking me to just shut that off when I am telling you it’s going to take time.”
A soft, tired sigh then escaped her lips as she shook her head, “It’s not the idea of celebrating our marriage. It’s that any celebrations will involve the boys, so I feel it’s best to keep them at the center of them right now - that’s all...” She trailed off as he told her that he knew he screwed up, and her features went blank. She wanted to get upset, she wanted to be angry, she wanted to lose her composure - but how could she? After everything he’d been through, after everything he sacrificed, and now trying to adjust to being home again, she couldn’t pile on. She just couldn’t. So she took a deep breath before genuinely reassuring him, “Crisis was not the last straw. You are not here solely for the boys. We’re a family. You and I are husband and wife, partners - just like we’ve always been - and we have two amazing, beautiful boys... All of us are just trying to adjust, and I’m sorry that I’m not doing a better job of it, I really am.”

"I feel like the 100 year cycle thing was meant to break me, to become more compliant to the others, so I'd do what they say. Instead of trying to find a way to break it, with who I wanna spend it with." Gordon explained and laughed at the 'pay grade' comment. and she looked so cute, taking her hand.
"I'd like that, I'd like some pie with you, and a couple of drinks too, if you're willing."
“Yeah, I know what that’s like,” Sara quietly replied, “Although I can’t imagine having to endure it for centuries on end.” She paused before adding, “But here we are. Making our choices, living the lives that we have decided to live - even if it’s something as simple as eating peanut M&Ms on a rooftop.” Speaking of, she handed the bag off to him before commenting, “I don’t think we’re going to find pie and liquor in the same place. But I’m more than happy to make more than one stop if you are.” A smirk then formed on her lips as she stepped up to the ledge, “Meet you down there.” After that, she was soundlessly somersaulting forward off the building and into the darkness.
