Glad that I brought the latest issue of POST Magazine along for this trip to Maine. I've managed to read it cover to cover while waiting for my #roadtrip / #photog buddy @kenny_kim to arrive here at PWM. The issue is yet another beautiful ode to #rochester, packed full of insight, humor, lifestyle and personalities. I was assigned two photography features for this issue AND cameo'ed in the role of writer for the 'One Last Thing' section at the end. Oh, and an outtake from my visit to @paleystudios was used as the background for the Table of Contents. Writing has always been a challenge to me, and I appreciate the editors giving me a chance to use words instead of light to paint pictures. .. At the risk of getting long-winded, here is the write up describing my time observing Mr. Paley in his creative niche: .. "I recently documented a student field trip to Albert Paley's Studio as part of an assignment for the art school feature story in this issue. What struck me most while watching Albert work was how calm he was. His workspace is enormous, and enormously chaotic. Scorching hot flames, hammers slamming on molten steel...it's really wild. In the middle of it all stands a silver spaceman. Torch and flame in hand - his brush and paints. His movements are swift, somewhat nonchalant. I suppose that's how masters do. The kids were loving it - each of them unleashing their own inner super hero. Watching Mr. Paley work, I could sense the intense connection that he has to the materials and processes he utilizes. There's familiarity and respect there. There's a relationship there. Miles Davis said that 'you have to play for a long time before you sound like yourself'. Relationships take time, so give them that.
