Alan is stubborn, thick headed and unwilling to back down with a one track mind. He is not the best at sharing his emotions and does have issues keeping his feelings to himself, often coming across as cold and heartless. He finds childlike enjoyment in acts of violence despite being told to take a situation seriously. He can be a bit sadistic as well but despite his flaws he truly cares for his pack. He is also known to be a voice of common sense within the pack and is packed with a vast amount of street smarts. He can come across as somewhat pessimistic to those that don’t know him well, but that is his way of protecting himself. He can be very charming when he wants to be.Â

→ His Connections
Parent Names:
Richard Thomas (Father): Alan grew up in a hyper-masculine household. There was no crying, no emotions, and dealing with it like a man. He and his old man almost constantly locked horns until the day Alan walked out.Â
Alice Thomas (Mother): Alice was the sugar to Richard's bitterness, trying to temper the three hotheads that were her sons and husband into some sort of ceasefire. Alan loved the time they were alone together, but ultimately holds some resentment over her lack of interest in her kids.
Sibling Names:
May Thomas (Sister): She passed away earlier this year at 64. She had begun to develop dementia, and often forgot who he was, calling him Jimmy on accident. May was the person who Alan was closest to.
Jimmy Thomas (Brother): Jimmy was changed at the same time Alan was, and the minute they woke up they were at each other’s throats. Last he heard of him, Jimmy had settled in San Antonio. To this day Alan isn’t sure if it was themselves or their wolves who were trying to take the other out.Â
Children Names:
None
Romantic Connections:
None
Platonic Connections:
Matthew William-Jones (Mentee): Matthew doesn’t have a lot of street smarts, but he’s a very trustworthy kid. Alan has been trying to get him interested in the academy so he’d make more money and have a better life for his kids.
Sol Alfaro (Best Friend): Sol and Alan share many views, thus forming a quick and easy friendship took just one conversation.Â
Rebecka Allen (Friend): Rebecka is new to town but the two bonded when Alan began to take yoga classes. She is not bad for a cat shifter.Â
Michael Shaw (Friend): He thinks Michael should push forward and become an engineer like he originally planned, and has been really supportive about getting him finding a new job.
Leah Phillips (Acquaintance): He thinks she is a little uptight, but she is reliable and he knows she will take care of what she needs to.
Isaac Baker (Friendly): Though Sol hates Isaac, Alan doesn’t think he’s too bad. He doesn’t agree with all of his positions, but he’s got a good head for a leader.
Mason Harley (Acquaintances): Alan was there when Olivia passed away and he saw how her death destroyed Mason’s faith in God. He’s tried to reach out in the few weeks since her death to get to know him.Â
Hostile Connections:
Geri Beckham (Annoyance): Alan cannot stand Geri’s rant about the catholic church. He grew up in it and left it for a reason.
Ellis Watts (Nemesis): He hates the jackals with a passion, possibly more than any other clan. He thinks Ellis is a stuck up snob who purposefully ties up their construction work with any red tape he can find.
Deucalion Thornton (Distrusts): He cannot figure Duke out, the way he acts and dodges anything from before he joined their pack seems like a bright red warning sign to him. But Isaac’s told him to drop it.
Pets:
None
→ History
Alan grew up in a traditional Irish Catholic household on Long Island. He had a tough as nails World War II vet as a father who ran their house like a brigade, and a homemaker mother who tried to balance his father out. Alan was taught to be a “man” and hold in his emotions, leading to an often very angry, rowdy, and law breaking youth. This was only exasperated by his brother Jimmy’s behavior. The two got on like fire and gasoline, always either fighting or rooting the other on. The explosive relationship between the brothers only paused when Jimmy got sent to Vietnam. Alan had a hard time understanding his emotions about his brother being shipped off, let alone being able to process them. He became more rowdy and more violent in the following years. The only person who seemed to cool down Alan’s temper was his little sister, May. She saw the happier parts of him and could pull them out of him when they were alone. Alan knew she was the one person he could let his guard down around, and she was the only person he cried to when he got his own draft notice.
While in Vietnam, Alan’s unit was ambushed on their way to Can Tho. He blacked out, but before feeling a sharp intense pain on his thigh. When he woke up he was face to face with Jimmy, except his eyes were bright gold. Before he knew what happened, his body twisted and contorted until he was on four timber colored legs. He lunged at Jimmy instinctively, and had to be pulled off. An alpha in Vietnam was using the war as a way to build his pack’s number without garnering any attention. He was eventually overthrown before the end of the war, and Jimmy and Alan were able to return home. By the time they returned, both had very little control and a lot of anger. Jimmy left for out west almost immediately, cutting off all ties from his family. Alan waited as long as he could for May to finish school, but ultimately left when she was a Junior. He made his way to Milwaukee, and then down to Chicago where Ogden found him. He’d been tough, trying to reign a rowdy, angry kid into a man in control of his wolf. Ogden got him into the academy and trained him patiently into the man he is today. Alan took over for Ogden as chief after his death, and vowed to help someone in the way Ogden helped him.Â
May found him in the early 80s, moving to a suburb on the border of Wisconsin. Alan began aging so he could somewhat resemble the age he should be, and ultimately keep her in his life. Dementia hit May earlier than most, and he lost her earlier this year. He halted his aging after she stopped being able to recognize him five years back.Â
→ The Present
After seeing his baby sister waste away and lose her mind in front of him, Alan’s fear of getting old escalated. He’s become obsessed with checking his health with witches, and even had a spell done to strengthen his mind by one. In addition to the magical antidotes to aging, he’s trying to lower his stress. Alan’s begun taking yoga. He’s found the stress-relieving elements helpful, especially when dealing with the loss of May.
Alan has also been trying to combat the new rules that have been put in place for their construction company. The jackals have their hands in nearly every department and they’ve begun to enforce extra rules on the houses with wolves in them. He has called Ellis and Zack on their games before, which only resulted in new monthly inspections of equipment and more bureaucratic tape.Â

Today is INTERNATIONAL ATAXIA AWARENESS DAY
Ataxia can be a disease in its own right or a symptom ( a bit like epilepsy).
People with ataxia can appear uncoordinated or have slurred speech.
They often face prejudice from people who assume they have been drinking alcohol or are drunk!
New post about types of ataxia, useful gadgets for people with ataxia and a profile of an awareness raising, adventuring hero of ours Alan Thomas.
The full post is here:Â http://livingwithdisability.info/ataxia-awareness-day/Â
This is a Story about our own moderator of LWA : Alan Thomas
Alan Thomas
Ataxia Awareness Advocate
I have Cerrebelar Ataxia a life limiting invisible condition that has made me give up my job as an electrician and rely on the care of my girlfriend.
As I had always walked with a “wobble” and talked with a small “Slur” everyone (including me) just thought it was the way I was. Only when I was working, as an electrician, and as I was making sandwiches every day, I was noticing that spreading butter was beginning to be something of a “Task” for my co-ordination, something that became a worry and something that I would need to seek medical advice.
Finding a diagnosis was NOT going to be easy, or quick. One of my first visits to the GP, I was told that there was nothing wrong and to go home and rest. To this day, the GP who said that will not look me in the eye.
Plenty of GP visits (over numerous years), referrals to Neurologists, MRI scans, Lumbar Puncture and blood tests and finally reached diagnosis of ATAXIA. Then the GP told me he wasn’t sure how it would be, but be prepared to be a wheelchair user, in the future.
So I went home and started to search, the internet for information (some good and some not so good). After me finding that information on this “invisible” “life-limiting” Neurological condition, was not very informative, I decided to make sure that information and support for citizens with Ataxia is easier to obtain, and so it enabled me to become Trustee of Ataxia UK (the national Ataxia Charity) chairman of Ataxia South Wales.
A branch that covers a HUGE area, encompassing 6 health boards and 16 local authorities. We are based in the West of Wales, on the county boarder of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, which is very rural and this alone brings its own challenges. We have recently set up a support group in Cardiff to cater for the East Wales membership.
Having Ataxia is very frustrating , not being able to carry out the daily tasks, that you used to do, getting used to watching others do “your work” and relying on others, constantly, for your care and wellbeing.
I spend alot of time using the computer communicate to others on disability or Neurological issues, this is made possible with many online facilities-Ataxia South Wales Facebook page and “online” networkwww.livingwithataxia.org , an international rare disease community which I moderate (this is just one of my online inputs, as there are so many, I keep an active mind and as mobile as possible to make life as normal as can be.
Ataxia South Wales is proud to be “spreading the word” about this “invisible” disability, on a local, national and international level with its attendance at many conferences including the Ataxia UK annual conference and the National Ataxia Foundation conferences in the US.
Many of my recent activities, have been made alot easier with the use of my TRABASACK, it is excellent to use as table for meals, taking notes, at meetings and even carrying drinks and food from buffets. A very PRACTICAL and useful addition for a wheelchair user and their independence.
