Apocalypse Survival guide: Xenia returns to the land(In which Sam writes the laws of the post zombie uprising world by ripping off Greek custom because that’s how it needs to happen)
—Announce your weapons/ other party members in the area(add one to the figure you hear, known as the hospitality dagger, though not necessarily a dagger, but the traveller’s right to carry an extra concealed weapon in the event of differences, but being well-known, it is accepted
—Before accepting guests it is polite to tell them your law on bites, camps mostly fall into the Gank on Sights, (GOS pronounced ‘goes’) and the Wait and Sees(WAS, pronounced ‘ways’)
—Guests lay their arms at the designated zone.
—Guests who stay are first bathed, lone travellers can limit this ritual to hands and feet if they are moving on within the day and do not appear to be sickly, but this is rare, groups are bathed ideally a one guest to one host ratio, sex/gender/etc isn’t taken into account.
—Guests are then given the best portions of food
—Guests are also expected to share their best stores, though participation in a hunting part is sometimes substituted.
—After the meal, guests tell their story and the story of the host group is told.
—The guest is given comfortable sleeping arrangements, they do not take a turn for Watch.
—In the morning a schedule is set for the expected duration of the guest visit.
—If the guest isn’t leaving immediately, guest needs are looked into, repair work etc and a skill inventory is taken in exchange. The day is spent in work exchange.
—The system of xenia puts a heavy moral obligation on all those involved, guests poor in goods feel a powerful obligation to learn any skill they can and often spend long periods of time in settlements to repay their hosts, mostly refusing lavish meals after the first night in favor of simple sustenance as they repay their debt.
—Physical commodities are appreciated but skills in telling tales, rendering art, mechanical skill and medical knowledge are highly prized. The degree to which spiritual knowledge is prized varies from group to group; most druid types exercise their other skills first, before offering to provide services, palmistry, spiritual examinations etc.
—While religion from the human mouth is not always trusted, altars along common roadways are very frequented, while activity may be more meme-based than spiritual, odds and ends are frequently picked up along travels for the purpose of leaving at a deity’s mound.
Most altars are left undisturbed, but depending on the character of the deity, some altars are more trade-based, places of offerings to fellow travelers rather than hoards for the deity itself.
Deities vary by region, settlements often create their own patron gods, and most roadside altars are based on interpretation, not some written index of gods, if the offerings seem to correspond to a god you wish to thank/pray to a traveller may use it to pray to their own familiar god.
Most deities correspond to elements of the world before it moved on, things like hobbies, websites, movies, characters, authors, moments of history, even Anonymous itself, others correspond to desires oft the present, charity, cleanliness, luck, and Being( a spiritual sentiment relating to survival but also self-awareness and humanity, differing greatly from mere ‘living’)
Altars serve as message boards, classifieds, maps, traveler's tips, points of trade and libraries of music lyrics and amusing anecdotes and memes, as well as log books recording who passed by when.
—Leave things nicer than you left them.
—It is common practice to move cars off the road when possible, if each group moves a car or to off the road the way will eventually be clear.
—Take what you need, not necessarily everything in sight, both t keep weight down and to be courteous to those after you.
—It is your obligation to keep the past alive, things you know should be told to as many people as possible, special care should be taken in the instruction of children, they should be given priority seating in story times etc.
—Things that made a comeback

—Horses are largely wild, but domestic goat populations exploded into common use, goat-carts are not uncommon.
—Hunting becomes ritualized, the consumption of greens far outweighs that of meat, the animal is thanked for it’s contribution and th hunter promises to make best use of it, in the interest of enabling the most Being, a small sacrifice allowing life for the group etc.
—Sweeping domestication of animals, children are often taught reverence for life by seeking animal nests and raising a cub/chick/pup of their own.
