Located along Dubai Creek, Al Seef beautifully blends the old and the new—traditional Emirati heritage set against a modern skyline. Walking through its winding alleys felt like stepping back in time. The rustic architecture, wooden doors, lantern-lit pathways, and wind towers gave the area a nostalgic charm, while just around the corner were chic shops, cafés, and restaurants buzzing with life.
As we strolled along the creekside promenade, the views were stunning—traditional dhows (wooden boats) floating gently on the water, with the city lights reflecting on the surface. The atmosphere was relaxed, perfect for both wandering and simply sitting down to enjoy the view.
Of course, food was a big part of the experience. We treated ourselves to local bites and international flavors, savoring the mix of cultures that Dubai is known for. Whether it was Emirati dishes, Arabic grills, or a cup of traditional karak tea, every stop was a delight.
One of the highlights was dining at Al Fanar, a restaurant that captures the essence of old Dubai not only in its food but also in its ambiance. The interiors were decorated with vintage lanterns, clay pots, and rustic furniture, instantly transporting us to a time before the city’s skyscrapers rose. We sampled classic Emirati dishes—from aromatic rice meals like machboos to freshly grilled meats and seafood, paired with flavorful dips and warm bread straight from the oven. Each bite carried the taste of tradition, seasoned with spices that felt both comforting and bold. The generous servings made the experience feel like a family feast, and it was the perfect reward after strolling through Al Seef’s alleys.
Later, we made a stop at the old-style Starbucks, one of the most interesting branches we had ever seen. Far from the usual modern glass-and-metal look, this Starbucks embraced the heritage vibe of Al Seef. Wooden beams, stone walls, and traditional décor gave it the feel of a cozy Arabian house rather than a global coffee chain. Sitting there with our drinks, surrounded by its nostalgic charm, was an experience in itself—like blending the familiarity of something we knew with the uniqueness of Dubai’s cultural setting.
