Home
I've recently started to explore a bit in San Francisco, the first place I went to was Akiko's Sushi Bar. Oh, I guess I should mention this but I was originally born and raised in Yuma, Arizona. My father had a house built in San Francisco many years ago but this past year was the first time we as a family ever came to visit the home, let alone move in. All the years growing up my sister and I would ask from time to time if we would ever get to go to San Francisco as a vacation, a trip, or something. My parents would just tell us that it was more of an ‘investment home’ that they use when they had business here.
Well, now it’s my new home. This bit is a little personal so buckle up. In short, back around mid November of 2013 I was in a car accident and had to be hospitalized. At some time in early 2014 I was moved to the UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco to begin my treatments and later my rehabilitation. I guess due to the fact I was stuck here the whole time there was no need for my parents to keep using our Yuma home as our main home, so they had decided to move. It wasn't until May of 2017 that I was finally cleared to leave the hospital and be home. It’s kind of funny to think it's been almost a year and I’ve only recently been starting to go out.
It was kind of depressing my first time walking into my new home with boxes still everywhere. So I spent most of my days slowly unpackaging everything, I kind of used it as my own form of exercise. It was tedious at first but at least I had something to do in this big house. You see both my parents are always busy with work and of course with me in the hospital all that time there is no way they’d focus on house decor, that was more of my older sister’s thing.
I missed Yuma and its familiarity, so I looked at photos of our home and tried my best to make it look the same. If you've watched Friends lately, like I have, then that should trigger a certain episode in you mind. Looking back at all the work I put into this place on my own, I just feel amazed I actually bothered with it. I wonder if I hadn't done anything if my parents would have left it covered in boxes or just paid for home decorators at some point.
Anyways, the food at Akiko's was really good I'm not the greatest 'foodie' but I will definitely be going back again. Don't judge me for going to a sushi bar and ordering only a little bit of sushi, but I really loved their beef teriyaki, and chicken Udon. Of course, I ate some actual sushi like tuna, yellowtail and salmon not to mention some blue fin. It’s just, I really like beef teriyaki and chicken udon.
I don't actually go out and explore as much as I should, mostly because I'm not as familiar with my surroundings. Also, I'm not really one to adventure out on my own. I was more of a follower growing up, but given my circumstances I feel I need to really step into my role. I'll be honest when I say living in a big house and being alone in it most of the time, is probably the only reason I go out. I sometimes just feel trapped like I'm back in my hospital room.
At first I thought this place felt depressing because of all the boxes, now it feels depressing because it feels empty even though it’s all decorated and full of things.
