The Mandalorians often worked with Sith- would the yellow eyes of Dark Lords have any affect on yellow's connotations?

You know ... I didn’t even think about that, but now that you’ve pointed it out, so many things suddenly click into place.

Especially considering that, say, the Mandalorian Wars came as a result of Sith manipulations---and working with them nearly resulted in their total annihilation, also at the hands of a “Dark Lord” (Revan). That Dark Lords and Sith have never really held any particularly good position, I can see how that would have affected how yellow is treated in language and across the general cultural landscape.

It certainly puts the whole shi’yayc = barely alive, not quite dead, and/or small / dying flame in a wholly different context and take on a different meaning, but after working with mando’a for so long, I generally wouldn’t put it past mandalorians to sneak obscure references and colloquial meaning within the layers of their words. 

I should never expect a simple answer, should I? Kidding. In all seriousness, this sort of meta is fantastic and I always look forward to your posts.

And the not quite real thing- would that apply to the culture after the Sith jerks come in and ruin everything or how the Sith lock themselves away from the joys of life and struggle and seek (seemingly) only rage and hate and power and always end up completely unfulfilled because they seek power for its own sake and not any specific goals and end up always searching for more and never being satisfied?

I would definitely say yes to all of the above. If anything, i feel like that plays into the impression of “zombies” even moreso, because is that, essentially, what zombies are? or, rather, what zombies as interpreted by mandalorians might be?

They’re like the embodiment of Arasuum, who could be inferred or interpreted as a legion of dead or death unchanging, or whatever manner of unchanged there is. Certainly the Sith, as they would be understood through the lens of mandalorians who have had to work with them either by force (pun not intended lmao) or convenience would not really hold a very high opinion on that kind of flagrant misuse of power that the Sith Empires often wielded with abandon.

Seeking power for power’s sake, wielding it with reckless abandon regardless of who is harmed versus who is benefited, and rigidly adhering to an endlessly self-destructive philosophy---all of these things fall ultimately under the providence of Arasuum. They have only one discernible outcome, and it’s one that is, ultimately, unsustainable on the larger scale due to its emphasis on individualism and, essentially, repeating the same path and action again and again hoping for a different outcome.

1. Of the fics you’ve written, which is your favorite and why?

Chess in the Snow is my go to as my absolutely favorite thing I’ve written so far. I love chess master type characters, of which both Pre and Solus are, and love watching them go up against their matches. So, the chance to have them wage a war with words and minor movements was a blast to write.

2. Which scene was your favorite to write in Chess in the Snow?

The ending. It’s a short fic so I can’t say a lot without giving it all away but I did love the way it ended. Plus, it echoes a sort of trend I’ve set up for Pre’s interactions with Solus, always pushing her forward.

3. Which part of Chess in the Snow was hardest to write?

The fucking title. It took ages for me to finally title it.

4. If you could change anything in Chess in the Snow, what would it be?

I wouldn’t mind going back to extend it out more. I love their interaction, especially in this uncertain time period, maybe include what happened when they went back inside.

5. Did you make an outline for Chess in the Snow? Did you stick to it?

I wrote and figured out where I was going after I go there.

6. Which scenes did you cut, and which were added in Chess in the Snow?

None that I can remember. The edits only changed a few phrases and sentence structures.

7. Who was your favorite character to write in Chess in the Snow?

There’s not really a ship in it but there is the clear set up for Prelus to become something.

8. Which came first, the title or the fic?

The fic by several months.

9. Which idea came to you first in Chess in the Snow?

Solus standing outside alone like an angsty Jedi trying to be reflective and someone coming to ruin that.

10. What are some facts readers may not know about Chess in the Snow?

1:What does their bedroom look like?

Kamelia: She keeps her room obsessively neat and aims for the humbled, minimalist Jedi aesthetic. However, Kamelia does have a lot of holobooks and flimsi notebooks she keeps around for her studies. The few truly personal touches she’s accumulated include a glass water bottle, a small box of makeup, and a soft mediation cushion, all in a super pale pink. Also, a nice calligraphy set she won as an Initiate. She stays in the Padawan Dorms. 

Solus: It’s kept organized but she has accumulated a lot of belongings over the years. Almost all of them are owed to undercover ops that she kept if they could useful later. Beyond the clothing and makeup, she has several sketchbooks and assorted art supplies; as much for mission as personal use. There’s a collection of holobooks covering a plethora of topics and her favorite personal artworks hung on the walls. Her absolute favorite is a recreation of the night sky as viewed from the Clan Vetra Stronghold on Krownest. Runners ups include the view from the bottom of her favorite mediation pond and several movement studies featuring her friends, teachers, and troops. Her room is part of an apartment shared with her Master, Kit Fisto.

23:How organized are they? How does this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life?

Kamelia: She is so organized it comes across as unnatural. Everything has a place and everything stays in its place. Everything follows checklists and schedules as best she can. Overall, it shows in her everyday life by having her look very put together and responsible. She is capable of surviving mess and going off plan (because that’s how being a healer runs even in the Temple) but it makes her deeply uncomfortable to lose that sense of control.

Solus: She’s organized in the places that matter in her day to day life. Anything mission pertinent is always easily located by her (and probably encrypted) as well as anything to do with her troops in general. Solus also believes you can’t run a spy network with clutter so her work life is kept well put together. Personal life is a total train wreck at times. Jazari sends her reminders to do her homework for the Temple that doesn’t include troop mission reports…or to eat a solid meal that is not two week old donuts scavaged from the break room or ration packs…or to text in full, uniformed language (Basic, Mando’a, Huttese, their coded language, even Binary, just a language) instead of a rough collection of words resembling something that might have been a sentence with emoticons. Her Commander, Mav, does the same damn thing.

31:Most prized possession?

Kamelia: Her lightsaber or Padawan braid because both prove she’s a Jedi.
