In recognition of her work, amongst Tufts University's Class of 2021 honorary degree awardees is one linguist dedicated to preserving America’s indigenous languages.
This May 23, AILDI Director and renowned Tohono O'odham linguist, scholar, & poet Dr. Ofelia Zepeda, Ph.D., is to receive an honorary Doctor of Letters from Tufts University in a virtual Commencement ceremony.
Serving as Regents Professor of Linguistics at UA and the one representative for all US Native communities on the UNESCO International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032), her teaching and scholarship provide resources for Indigenous language educators and activists for which she also received a MacArthur Fellowship.
With three published books of poetry, she is also the series editor of Sun Tracks, the award winning publication series focusing on Native authors.
Join us in congratulating her! 🎉
