This was perhaps the moment, which comes to so many, when Fern simultaneously matured and withered. He became more practical, as people call it; less demanding of life.

Tsundoku noviembre 2018
Seguimos acumulando.

Today is launch day for M. R. Cosby’s ‘Dying Embers’, a collection of horror short stories with a very strong Robert Aickman feel about it.
As James Everington described it in his introduction:
Within these stories you’ll find people drawn into strange situations that they, and we, only partly understand. In nearly all cases the characters themselves are not to blame for what occurs; they are…

Often it seems to me that life needs the individual heretic but seldom the ensuing heresy.

I wanted that girl more than I had ever wanted anything. And I don't mean I just wanted her body. That comes later in life. I wanted to love her and tousle her and all the other, better things we want before the time comes when we know that however much we want them, we're not going to get them.
Robert Aickman, "The Swords" (published in Cold Hand in Mine)
