So I was just in one of my Author groups and found out many writers are discovering a serious issue in publishing right now, even if you donāt use AI to write, built-in editing tools like Grammarly, Google Docs, or Word can cause your work to be flagged as āAI-generatedā by AI checkers.
The problem is that AI detectors are unreliable. They donāt actually detect AI, they guess based on patterns, and polished human writing often gets falsely flagged. To make matters worse, some publishers are recommending that authors upload their work to AI checkers, not realizing that these tools may store, reuse, or expose submitted text.
This has led to unpublished novels being compromised or effectively pirated, all while writers are trying to āproveā they proved they didnāt use AI, through the AI checkers and other AI software, leaving their work harder if not impossible to sell.
The irony is that writers who donāt use AI are often the ones most affected. This isnāt about transparency, itās about flawed tech and risky policies putting authorsā work in danger.
If you're out there right now be careful before entering your work online, even if you aren't sure if it is AI or not. Please remember to be kind, because some people are on the spectrum and or neurodivergent and have unique voices that AI will not recognize, they may see their organization or info dumping as AI. You putting a novelists or artists work into a AI checker can then make their work available for pirating and they will no longer be able to make a profit so please, be cautious of your own skepticism.
