âIâm right here.â
It was the last thing Ashton expected when he got home from the studio. It wasnât the first time he had encountered it, and it wouldnât be the last - every time made him panic just at the sight of you.
He felt like he was getting better at being a source of comfort for you. He had his own ways of managing his own anxieties. But if there was anything he had learned from being around many different people each with their own mental health issues, it was that everyone dealt with them differently.
âI canât breathe.â Your chest felt constricted as you tried to speak, unable to stop pacing around the dimly lit lounge as though it would help to calm you down.
Sitting in one spot proved difficult when you felt this anxious. Even if you managed to stay sitting, your knee was constantly shaking, or you were tapping your nails against whatever surface you could find. These were all signs that Ashton would usually pick up on. He hadnât today, as he had been in the studio since the early morning.
âYouâre fine, love. Look at me, Iâm right here.â He soothed, taking your trembling hands in his and gently squeezing them, to try and get some feeling other than anxiety into your body. âWeâre going to get through this together, okay?â
You shook your head. It felt like everything was crumbling around you. Like nothing would ever feel okay again, the anxiety coursing through your veins faster than you could even try and control it.
âAshton.â You whimpered, letting him pull you into his arms as his hands began rubbing soothing circles into your back. He could feel the heat from your skin radiating onto his neck as you pressed your forehead to his shoulder, burying your head into his chest.
âIâm here, babe. Iâm not going anywhere.â He reassured you, gently kissing your forehead so you knew he was there. âWill you sit down with me?â
You nodded against his neck, letting him guide you to the sofa where he wrapped his arm around your shoulder. He felt you relax against him slightly, rubbing your upper arm softly as you took deep breaths.
He hated how scared you looked.
Nothing hurt his heart more than watching you suffer through the anxiety your own mind brought onto you. He never wanted to see you suffer through anything.
âThatâs my girl.â He murmured into your hair, kissing your temple softly. His free hand grabbed yours from where you were drumming your fingers against your thigh, gently squeezing so you had something to focus on again. âYouâre doing so good.â
He held you close as you stared into space. It was exhausting. He knew heâd be taking care of you for the rest of the day, making sure you ate, making sure you got some sleep. He wanted to be there to do that for you every day, for the rest of your life.
âIâm always here, love.â

âHey lovebug,â Ashton said with a beaming smile as his daughter toddled over to his side.
Ashton reached down to scoop her up and sit her on his lap, the toddler craving his attention. He was on a video call with the band for album promo and as soon as her face filled the screen the rest of the guys started cooing. Her curls were wild and Ashton could tell she was tired but couldnât sleep; often needing him to rock her or hum a little lullaby for her to settle down and drift off. She lifted her little hand and waved at the screen; seeing her uncles and having to say hi. Michael waved back with a scrunched up face, Luke waved and made Petunia wave too. Calum leaned forward, grin growing as he said hi to her. Ashton unplugged his headphones so she could hear her uncles.
âWhat are you doing up?â Calum asked, voice gone soft and concerned, knowing it was past her bedtime.
She babbled something incoherent and Ashton translated it to, âShe canât sleep until I hum her a lullaby,â then looked down at her. âIsnât that right lovebug?â She merely blinked with tired eyes in response.
âOh! We should all hum,â Michael suggested, eyes alight and not waiting for a response before starting to hum something vaguely similar to twinkle twinkle little star. Calum and Luke joined in but the noises didnât translate well through the crossed connections and she turned away, burying her face against Ashton and eliciting laughter from everyone.
âAsh, I hate to break it to ya but I donât think your daughter is a fan of the band,â Luke teased.
âOnly dada hum,â she insisted and Ashton smirked.
âHates the band. Loves me though. Clearly Iâm the superior member,â Ashton fired back and ran his fingers through her curls, ducked down to her and promised he would once the call was over.
She stayed for the rest of the conversation, dozing in and out of sleep against Ashton, just wanting to be with him for comfort.
Yes! BF!Ash birthday boy! What about you throw a small but crazy fun party with only people he really cares about, including surprising him with his mom and siblings. But the really big surprise is that you tell him that you're pregnant, and he's so happy.
The end of the party leaves you and Ashton in a mess of celebration. Thereâs cups and discarded bottles everywhere. The music has finally been turned down and the last of the guestsâAshtonâs family as a big surprise to himâhave just left for the night. Ashtonâs still beaming and reeling from the small but a bit out of hand party. Youâre happy the night is bringing him so much joy. Thereâs a secret on your lips begging to come out; another something you hope will make him even happier. Something youâve been dying to tell him since yesterday when you found out. But you waited until tonight, deciding itâd be better than any birthday present one could buy. Once the house is cleaned up enough to go to bed with a little peace of mind you trail him to the bedroom, nearly skipping in your delight.
âWhatâs got you so happy?â He asks as he discards his shirt to get ready for bed.
You bite your lip and shrug. Move closer to him and wrap him in a hug. âIâve got one last present for you.â
âOh?â Ashton asks with a mischievous smile and you giggle. âReally?â
âMhm,â you say and motion for him to take a seat on the bed. âBut I thought it should be done in private.â
Your hands settle on his shoulders as you stand in front of him and dip down to give him a kiss. His hands are warm and strong on your waist as you settle on his lap.
âI just thought you should know that by your next birthday there will be three of us.â
You see the confusion come and go quickly, the bewilderment is quickly replaced with sparking elation as he lights up. You know heâs been waiting for this moment; youâve been trying for months now.
âReally?â He asks, wanting to be extra sure.
âYes,â you confirm and let yourself be pulled into him, one hand wandering to your stomach where a bump has yet to form. You can feel the love and happiness in his touch and the warmth of his cheeks as he continues to smile. âYouâre gonna be the best dad. Happy birthday.â
ohhh first date scenarios!! could I request something with Ashton and you're both teachers at a school and everyone's always trying to set you guys up (students and teachers alike) because you're the young single ones so you humor them and go on a date and it's a little awkward but sweet and then at school all of the kids ask about it? (am I living vicariously through this? yes, yes I am) thanks and love you!! đđ
Ashtonâs idea of an ideal first date never included being pressured into it through faculty and students alike. He liked you well enough, made good conversation with you in the teacherâs lounge and constantly strived to make you laugh as the sound was infectious and your smile was radiant. But, he hadnât considered anything other than friendship when mixing work and relationships. Though everyone inside the school seemed to think there was something more between you two. The date had started as a joke, to mock the rumors and thoughts that circulated, to kick back and enjoy some time away from the usual fray. It turned serious when Ashton realized how much he truly enjoyed your company.
You were different away from work. More relaxed and open, and though it was initially a little awkward due to the circumstances that brought you together it was well worth breaking through the ice. You went for drinks and after only one you left the bar in favor of walking through the park. Leaves scattered the pavement and danced through the grass, the evening was young and a little chillyâa small breeze cutting through every so oftenâbut it offered a chance to stay close together.
âIâm glad I came out tonight,â you admitted around a slight blush. âI wasnât so sure about this.â
âDoubt that Iâm a good date?â Ashton responded with a teasing tone and glint in his hazel eyes.
You laughed. âNo. But all the pressure from everyone seemed like a lot to live up to. I think it has though.â
The night ended in your admission and an offering of another one. The next day brought questions from students that made you both flustered and observations from coworkers that couldnât be denied. A bunch of âtold you soâsâ followed. Neither of you minded.
Send me a first date scenario and a band member and Iâll write a blurb đ€
I totally see his significant other planning a whole birthday bash. Maybe they'll take him out for a birthday dinner when really they rented out the whole restaurant and mayne his family came to the US. And Ash is just đđđâ€â€â€
Ashton would have his suspicions about the birthday dinner; knowing how his partner usually goes above and beyond and doubt itâs just a dinner. So, heâs not too surprised when they walk into the restaurant to bet with friends. What really gets him is seeing his mom and siblings tucked into the corner with greeting smiles and hugs awaiting him. He wouldnât know how his partner pulled it off, formulating a plan to get them there behind his back and keeping it secret for so long. But heâd appreciate it with his entire being.
As the bash dies down heâd get a moment alone with his partner, thank them for everything they did to make the night possible. Heâd thank them with kisses and whispered words meant for only them. They would whisper back how much they love him and how happy they are the night went according to plan. And as theyâre walking to the car theyâd just smile and promise the night isnât over yet. Thereâs more in store when they get home.

đ€đ€ Itâs been a while since Iâve been in here but you asked for a sports au with angst and hopefully this doesnât disappoint. SO revisiting poly baseball!cashton (because Iâm still trying to learn this sport and football for you since you do for hockey for me) but what if youâre on a team with the boys and theyâre going up against their main rivals. Like, they hate each other to the CORE. So much so that everyoneâs a lil worried that theyâd target youâpurposely try to hurt you and such. (1/3)
Maybe during the practice before, you get into it with Ash, whoâs like the unspoken captain of the team. You tell him heâs being unreasonableâwhich he is since he essentially wants to pull you from the roster, last minute, and to your knowledge for no apparent reason. For Ashton, he just has a bad feeling that somethingâs going to go wrong but youâre both too heated to actually stop and listen to each other. The rest of the team can only but watch the crossfire until Calum gets there. (2/3)
To your chagrin, Cal sides with Ashton. You have no choice but to bring it up to the coaches and you plead your case flawlesslyâyouâre a damn good player, very well rounded and it would be a shame to sit out on such an important game. Obviously, the coaches let you play because not letting you based on a /feeling/ is absurd. To make matters worse, after the meeting, youâre still peeved and so you ignore the boys for the rest of the day and some of the next few until the big game. (3/3)
â
The silence is heavy, youâre unsure if youâve ever gone this long without talking to them. Days on end seems impossible but you donât crack. Itâs not until the day of the game that you evenly meet Ashtonâs gaze, he offers a timid smile in acknowledgement and you shoulder past him in the dugout, taking up a home on the opposite end as the coaches and players filter in. The game begins without a hitch, youâre in the outfield as usual but thereâs not too much traffic coming your way. Michaelâs pitching is superb and you suppose youâll give credit to Ash being a quick and defensive catcher. It also helps that Cal is one of the best shortstops youâve ever seen, he can seamlessly catch what seem like missiles coming off the bat and turn a double play like thereâs no tomorrow.
Itâs not until the bottom of the third inning Ashton and Calum grow wary. The lineup calls for you to lead off the inning at the plate. You huff and roll your eyes at their hovering worry, though deep down you appreciate their protective instincts. But you write them off to being silly. Until youâre pushing out of the way of pitches, cleats stirring up dirt and heart racing at fastballs coming a little too close to be a coincidence. You take a walk and throw your bat away in annoyance as you stare down the pitcher and ignore a petty comment from the catcher. The inning ends with you stranded on third and no score on the board.
You soften as you grab your glove and realize their worry wasnât in vain, but youâre grown up and can make your own decisions. You want to play. Cal and Ash wonât sway you, no matter the convincing tone they take and pleading eyes as you go your separate ways on the field.
The game goes in a whirl and it comes down to the bottom of the ninth, all tied up and runners in scoring position for you as you take up your hitting stance. Youâve been ducking and dodging pitches all game, struck out a couple as they brought the bullpen in for a reliever. The closer stares you down and you recognize him as being one of Calum and Ashtonâs least favorite people. You steel yourself. Grip the bat and plant your feet, eyes focused. The first pitch comes in hot and fast down the middle. Strike one. The second cuts a little closer, you maneuver away and try not to let it get to you. One ball, one strike. The third pitch has you falling back, an attempted headshot having your heart racing in fear as you fall to the dirt and thank your lucky stars there was no connection. Youâre facedown and can only hear the stampede of footsteps taking the field on your behalf. A fight has broken out and youâre helpless to stop it.
â
âI told you Iâd be fine,â you murmur as you hold an ice pack to Calumâs cheek with one hand and brush Ashtonâs bruising knuckles with the other. âYou didnât have to start a fight.â
âThey started it when they messed with you,â Calum grumbles and Ashton agrees quickly.
âCanât let them get away with that. They couldâve hurt you.â
You sigh. âI know. But they didnât. And I-â
âHit the walk off,â Ashton finishes, going from an angered mess to beaming with pride in an instant. âProbably hurt their pride worse than our little scuffle with them.â
âI told you. I can take care of myself.â
âYou can. But weâre always gonna be there for you too,â Calum promises with a soft tone and a hand finding yours holding the ice pack in place. Ashton agrees with a nod and entwines your fingers.
Let's try this again đ„° You still need to teach me about baseball Eve baby! Because I still know close to nothing which makes me wonder how baseball!cashton would teach you how to play?
I did it list style and you already know Iâm dumb and accidentally deleted it yesterday so this is what my memory could recover:
They teach you the fundamentals first. They tell you, then they show you, then they help you do it.
They break down terminology and abbreviations. They ask you what you think they mean to see if you have any grasp on it and smile when your answers are almost right. They correct you and praise you, telling you you might know more than you think.
Calum covers the bases, except home plate which stays strictly Ashtonâs domain, and his specialty of shortstop. He explains all the players responsibilities and shows you the typical ground they cover. He explains double plays and goes on to how rare a triple play is and how perfect the execution and circumstances need to be. He boasts just a bit, proud of the fact heâs helped turn a couple.
Ashton starts with his catchers duties, tells you about signals and shows you how to make the signs. Helps you into stances and shows you how to throw a runner out. Then he shows you how the outfield operates; the different domains of right, center and left.
They both tackle pitching. All of Ashtonâs time catching gives him a sharp eye and intuition. Calumâs batting record speaks for itself and shows his understanding of pitching. Neither can throw quite like a pitcher but they have decent enough arms to mimic some basic pitches and help you learn the movements.
Once the defensive knowledge is dispersed they move onto batting. They definitely do the very cliche move of wrapping their arms around you to help instruct your swing; taking turns to guide you and throw easy tosses your way.
Once youâre comfortable enough Calum takes up position as pitcher and Ashton catches for him while you give batting a proper try. You strike out again and againâCalum clearly challenging you but still bearing in mind youâre just learning. They break out into grins when you get a hit, basically a bunt that lands the ball barely fair and in no manâs land.
You run for first as if itâs a real game but without a first baseman Calum runs after you, scoops you up and stops you in your tracks until Ashton secures the ball and tags you out; all the while laughing and congratulating you for making contactânot admitting it was a hit, insisting you would have been out in a real game. And you just laugh at how competitive they are.
Theyâd love teaching you, love that you are taking an interest in their world past surface level.
Summary: New and old traditions with Ashton leave your heart hopeful and full of winter wonder.Â

Thousands of lights twinkled before you. They were strung up around a vast botanical garden; the lights gave life to bare branches and a dark night. The moon was just a sliver in the sky but the stars shining above blended in with twinkling bursts of illumination. Looking around was wondrous; catching gazes with Ashton and taking in hazel eyes reflecting lights and radiating warmth left a beautiful hum thrumming through your bloodstream. His hand in yours was natural and innate, and though the connection was veiled by gloves to keep fingers from freezing you could still feel the spark connection had brought you since your first date. Ever since the first time his fingertips brushed your skin and heated your cheeks.
You thought back to those first defining moments of your relationship. Youâd met about a year ago. You had your first date in the snow, clothes soaked through as giggles brought you both to the ground. Your hands had locked with his, fingers interlacing. Ashtonâs back was pressed into the snow as you straddled him and guided his arms in an attempt to make a snow angel. His nose had crinkled up and hands brought yours to your chest as he flipped you both, your back now feeling the biting chill of the snow. He had whispered that you were the snow angel and you felt a welcome warmth wash through you. His cold fingers had  brushed along your cheek and settled on the slight curve of your jaw, your lips trembled at the touch and the snow seeping past your jacket was all but forgotten at the brush of his lips against yours.
âIs this becoming a tradition?â Ashton asked around a smile as you bumped shoulders with him and continued along the lit path.
You nodded eagerly as snow began to fall in small tufts from the sky. Youâd brought Ashton in on winter traditions youâd held close since you were young. But to forge new traditions together had your heart content and hopeful. To know he wanted to hold onto these moments and recreate them each year made all the warmth in your body sizzle with contentment. Last yearâs stroll through the lights had been filled with awkward giggles and unsure hands reaching for each other and falling away. Thereâd been a flash of a camera when you werenât aware; Ashton dipping the device back in his pocket as you turned. That photo still lived in his wallet and made your heart flip when he opened it and it caught your sight.
Ashton gestured for you to turn; your back now to the lights and his camera facing you as he snapped a photo; gleaming smile and snow falling into your hair and the tops of your shoulders. Even though the photo was blurry he called you back over to take a peek at it, stood on tiptoes to see over his shoulder and chin pressing into his arm. He grinned at the new photo; this year you faced the camera as opposed to a turned back. You had a feeling the new photo would join the old. You had quickly realized Ashton was a creature of habit and harbored close connections with small mementoes. You were almost certain the old photo would never be replaced, no matter how many years would pass. There would be an ever growing collection of twinkling lights and you filling his wallet to the brim.
âI love traditions,â Ashton mused as you both settled back into a slow pace to continue gazing at the lights; caught in endless awe at the beauty. âWeâre going back to the river this year, right?â
You grinned, unable to hide happiness that Ashton had remembered and wanted to partake once again. Youâd only been seeing each other for about a month and with anyone else introductions to family would have been way down the line. But Ashton was different. It was right. No matter the limited timing. No matter the skepticism from friends and jarring words of its too soon. They were wrong and soon was just a meaningless concept lost down a frozen river. Your family had taken to Ashton the moment they met him; his unaccustomed feet stumbling around the frozen river path in brand new skates heâd purchased especially for the occasion. Heâd beamed with pride when he showed you, wanting to make the best first impression, especially as he was stepping into a winter family tradition. You had promised your family would love him and once again you were right.
âOf course,â you answered without missing a beat, though the memory of holding hands and slowly skating down the river flashed before your eyes. âEvery year. Itâs my familyâs oldest tradition.â
Ashton stopped midstep, your own feet fumbling to a pause. His gloved hand squeezed yours and he turned to face you with a quirk of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. One eyebrow arched as his hands found way to your waist and pulled you closer, hands settling on your jacket but not failing to ignite year long sparks.
âI canât wait to make new traditions with you.â
His words spread warmth through you, blazing your cheeks through the chill of the night.
âCould make a new one right now,â you suggested in a whisper as your hands made way up his chest and onto his shoulders; guiding him even closer. You stood on your tiptoes and let your eyes slowly flutter closed all in a successful attempt to clue him into your thoughts.
You heard a small but breathy laugh before his lips pressed to yours. Although the moment was brief, just a light peck before pulling away to catch gazes and trade smiles it didnât fail to fluster you in a most wonderful way. You took a moment to memorize the exact location within the botanical garden, to trail your eyes along every highlighted dip and curve of Ashton; keeping the first of what you hoped would be many traditional kisses secure in your memory.
You supposed that although you didnât have a growing collection of photos to capture and keep moments the way Ashton did you had your own form of it. Memories seared into your mind, moments imprinted on your heart. Hope and room for plenty more.
You stood with snow falling and Ashtonâs hands on your waist, gentle squeezes reassuring your already sure heart. Everything was right. It was easy with Ashton. You could see your hopes, could envision a future built on traditions and hazel eyes that never failed to warm you. Winter wonder swept you away, made your hopes for the future gleam under beautiful lights.
