Stan's Writeblr Intro (2024 Version):
Hi ☺️ my name is Stan! I'm gay and non-binary and I use they/them pronouns. I am now 27 years old and joined Tumblr last year when many of the other Twitter refugees found a home here. Although I haven’t been so active since last summer, I still feel at home here and love the warmth and welcoming environment of Writeblr.
About Me (Slightly Shorter Version): (skip to the About My Writing Section below if you wish ✨)
I was born and raised in Central California and my family originates from Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. My parents, who were once field workers, were the first in their family to come to the United States and graduate from college. I have an older brother and an older sister. While my brother and sister are millennials, I proudly align more with Gen Z.
I was always a straight-A student. I could count to 100 in English and Spanish by the time I was two years old, according to my mom. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher noticed I could read some big words, and she encouraged me to read higher-level books. By the time I was 10, I was reading at an AR level 12 (continued below).
I have loved writing my whole life; I was three when I first opened a brand-new Word document and wrote a few sentences about a man who lived in Ohio and sold desks. My parents encouraged my interest in writing. I once read a chapter of my writing to my first-grade class, and the overall encouragement played a huge role in writing becoming a core part of me. I created story worlds and silly characters who said silly things, beat bad guys, had superpowers, traveled to cool places, and spoke alien languages. I also still use the writing system for this fictional language I made up when I was ten, and I sometimes revise it, just as any regular writing system naturally evolves over time.
Side Note: [I finally decided to call my cipher Avremila (Ah-vreh-MEE-luh) not even a week ago after not knowing what to rename it for such a long time! By happenstance, "Avremila" means "Morning Gratitude," in Avremila, but it also happens to be an anagram for my mom's name 🥹❤️ So the name must stay! ]
Other than writing, I got into piano and band at an early age and have even composed some crazy pieces on piano!
I was diagnosed with Tourette’s Syndrome and ADHD at the age of seven, and since I never really had a concrete set of friends in K-12, Pokémon was my escape and the one thing that I could find solace in other than writing. I love Pokémon more than almost anything in the world ❤️
At an early age, I also knew I was gay, but I suppressed it all until I was 17. I couldn’t hide it anymore. What happened next was that my then-best-friend’s family made me start going to church with them. I was never religious and even told my parents when I was twelve that I didn’t believe in God, but the church got me when I was vulnerable ☹️. When I started college, I found a new church group, which turned out to be an insane, manipulative cult. I won’t go into the details of that because it won’t do anyone any good, but needless to say, they tried tearing me apart from my family and tried changing who I was. They kept tabs on every aspect of my life–– even my thoughts couldn’t be private!
On November 24, 2018, I finally came out as gay and broke free from the Christian church! I envisioned becoming someone who was unapologetically me and uplifting to the people around me. The church had made me close-minded, but I was determined to unlearn all of that––and I’m so glad that I did! In 2020, I also started realizing that I was non-binary, which in and of itself is a whole other story! I came out publicly as non-binary in 2022 during Pride Month! Before the pandemic in 2019, I also started being treated for bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, and depression on top of Tourette’s and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
In 2022, I finally got my long-awaited Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. I joined my undergraduate university’s Master’s Program for Chemistry, and I’m currently doing some amazing biomedical research related to the rational and bioorganic drug design of potential novel natural-product-based anticancer pharmaceuticals!
About My Writing:
When I first started writing, I was inspired by Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel, so naturally, I gravitated towards short stories! This was my main writing outlet until the summer before I started high school. Many of the characters I’ve created throughout my lifetime were created when I was just ten years old! They’ve undergone many name changes and personality changes, among various other changes, but they’re essentially a part of me!
In 2016, as a second-semester college student, I completed a novel that I am currently revamping (even in 2024), and I will describe the concept below in another section. There were many things wrong with this novel: all of my characters sounded the like the same person, and I essentially wrote “filler scenes” for the sake of reaching a word count. There were also plot holes, deus ex machina scenes––you name it! I also incorporated religion into it because at that time I still hadn’t left the church, and this makes me cringe at the content of that “novel.” So… I decided to toss it aside. I haven’t looked at that 2016 draft in many years, but events during the Summer of 2023 inspired me to revamp my novel, rewrite the lore, and be authentic to myself and my style as I write! I even revamped the whole story world to make it less convoluted.
But what do I write, you ask?
My writing is a hybrid of sci-fi and fantasy! I love the idea of grand adventures across lands, planets, and dimensions to achieve an impossible but noble goal for the greater good of the universe. 🥰 However, when I write short stories, they are usually contemporary dramas with few elements of fantasy.
My Current WIPs:
My WIP is called AI-One. The name came by accident! I was labeling my different series as A, B, C, and D, followed by their Roman numerals to denote which book in the series it was. So, normally, this would be AI. But one day, I accidentally wrote it as AI-One, and the name stuck!
In AI-One, my main character, Javi, is a young, college-aged adult who never had a normal upbringing. He lives with his three cousins, who are his age, as well as three other individuals from two separate families. Two are fraternal twins, while the other is an only child from another family. The dynamic in Javi’s household is complex. His father is also hardly present, but this household has always been very well off and privileged, hardly knowing the reality of the struggles other families have had to endure. However, they have always been very resourceful due to having to essentially raise themselves.
Since Javi was a kid, he knew that something was different about him. He would see celestial bodies in the sky that nobody else could, wishing he could go there himself, but here’s the catch: he's from there, but since he was born, he’s been exiled to the Earth, and the reason why is unbeknownst to him. Two or three members of his household are there at all times to keep him company while the others spend time on their home planet tending to their duties.
The most important thing about Javi, however, is that he is the sole beta-tester for the world’s first Bio-Phone! This technically makes him a cyborg 😉 But in all seriousness, he has everything he could think of at the palm of his hands, including access to information and educational resources through search engines, taking pictures as he sees them through his own eyes, and even being able to decide when he goes to sleep and wakes up.
Right from the get-go of the story, Javi and his family are fending off an intruder in their household when things don’t go too well. Nothing was stolen, although the house was essentially damaged beyond repair, but during the intense fight scene, Javi is subdued by the intruder and passes out. When he wakes up, nothing makes sense to him, as if he had woken up in an alternate reality.
After scaring his family and friends, they begin to suspect what went wrong. His memories have been corrupted, causing him to remember things that never happened and forget other very crucial things, such as the fact that he and his household are not from Earth. At the expense of shattering the dynamic of his household, and just when things cannot possibly get any worse, he is essentially thrown to the wolves when he is forced to return to his home planet, Searova (su-ROW-vuh) as the Earth is no longer deemed safe for its citizens to reside in. Searova is part of a solar system tentatively named Taelae (tye-LEE) but I don't like the name as much as I used to 😕
Javi soon realizes who is responsible for his memory loss and discovers the true reason for his exile. He also realizes that the people of his world are capable of using superhuman abilities called “maille” (pronounced like the word “my,” but in a French way 🧐). Long story short (no pun intended), he has a destiny to fulfill. Earth is not the only target of the antagonist’s destruction, and Javi must put a stop to it with the help of his family and friends, whose dynamic is now in shambles. Most importantly, he wants his memories back from the antagonist–– this is personal to him!
Javi has a long journey ahead of him; as advanced as this world may be, their only mode of transportation is walking 😊 Can Javi fulfill his destiny and reclaim his memories while relearning how to use his maille? And can he restore the bonds between his family and friends that have been broken and strained?
One day, hopefully you’ll find out ❤️ There’s so much action and drama I’m planning to incorporate. Javi is also gay, by the way, 😌 so this also explores LGBTQ+ topics! All my writing does, in a way.
And again, AI-One has been a work in progress since I started high school at 14, and I completed the draft that I am currently revamping when I was 19. A lot of the elements I discussed are not in the 2016 draft, which is the purpose for the revamp! Even though it’s basically the same story, it’s also quite different!
Other WIPs:
I also write a short story collection called The Nico Chronicles. I started it in 2019 as a way to explore topics I’d never written about and loosely base it on my own life. It ended up unexpectedly receiving a revival in 2023 alongside AI-One, and in the process of writing the revival this summer and throughout the last part of 2023, I became very attached to this series. There is a time skip from Halloween 2019 to January 2023, and after writing the multiple-part comeback installment, my beloved Nico Chronicles characters will have to endure some not-so-fun stuff.
To vaguely summarize, The Nico Chronicles is a collection of crazy, implausible situations that four college-aged students find themselves getting into. Even though it’s contemporary fiction, it’s anything but normal, and the inclusion of elements of fantasy is what makes these situations so implausible in real life. I grew to really love these characters all over again this past year, 2023.
Conclusion and Purpose:
Every day, I aim to become a better human. Mediation and spirituality play a huge role in my life. I want to continuously grow in my kindness and understanding. I want to uplift and encourage people. I want to have a net positive impact on the world. Whether it be through my research, through my writing, or through my kindness. I love and feel emotions very deeply as if they are sensations in my bones and in my core.
I am far from perfect, but every day, I’m aiming to be better. I’m an optimist-in-progress. There is an ideal version of myself that I grow into every day. I love life, nature, and how mystical it all can be. Yes, it can be hard, but I’ve climbed my way out of the abyss so many times that I basically have the climb back up to the top memorized by now! I am living proof that it really does get better 🥹 especially after being in such a dark place for most of 2023, which was the darkest of my dark eras.
Being able to connect to nature and the people around me is of the utmost importance, especially the people I love and care about. The ones I keep close to me, I love in a way that resonates all throughout my spirit. I want to light up the lives of all the people around me. I want people to remember me as someone who loved. And who was kind. And who made their lives brighter.
Thank you so much for reading, and please feel free to reblog and interact! I’m looking forward to hopefully using Tumblr more in 2024.
