A place built on the site of a monastery perhaps, or is that the name of the townland? Waterford, where Mr. Poole took so many of his photographs, has some wonderful townland names including Morning Mary's personal favourite “Christendom”, so perhaps “St. John” is yet another? An outdoors man taken indoors! by National Library of Ireland on The Commons What a lovely way to start the week, photographically speaking that is. A fine portrait commissioned by Mr. A.E West of Kilcoroney, Bray shows a man in outdoor tweeds with his cap and walking stick in the prime of life. Who was Mr. West and what might the connection be between Bray and Waterford? On posting the letter from the Earls O'Neill and O'Donnell on Friday we were looking forward to translations and information. Lord, Lady and Rover Castletown by National Library of Ireland on The Commons I love to see a family with a dog front and centre! Lord and Lady Castletown in an unusual pose with the lady standing while the gentleman sits and caresses the dog. And what a dog? A poodle with an elaborate, almost covid hairstyle and the task this morning is to discover the name of the said Poodle the most original of which will receive a virtual sticky bun with extra icing! Trophies for the prettiest cows and horses in the show? by National Library of Ireland on The Commons This fine collection of trophies is described by the catalogue as “Agricultural Society’s Challenge Cups” but I suspect that they are not for the prettiest Cows and Horses. Which Society was it, and do the fine trophies still exist today? Thank you all for yesterday’s work, and especially the Beachcomber’s final comment on Jack the Ripper. Vegans Beware!! by National Library of Ireland on The Commons Virtual sticky buns to the first contributor who posts the correct number and species of the dead animals on view in this photo. I would have to say that this is not one of the best produced by the Poole organisation. What were they doing (or trying to do) with the whiteout above the heads in the back row? Perhaps it was because the building looks like an animal shelter of some kind? This is a fancy, and by the look of it, a wealthy group indeed.
