To say I'm disappointed about the news that broke this Monday is an under statement. Fellow HIV researchers have been working tirelessly, globally; to find a cure; a vaccine. When we started this study in 2016, spear headed by amazing South African doctors I've grown to call close friends @sheetalkassim @Phili Makhoba Dlalisa and others, we were so hopeful! The pandemic is debilitating our young girls; our little sisters and our current methods of HIV prevention have had little success on them. And this vaccine gave us such renewed hope, energy to keep fighting, to keep looking for solutions. This is the closest we've come to an efficacious vaccine for HIV! It showed such promise in previous studies in Thailand. But of course the epidemic lives here and for now this epidemic our girl child shall continue carrying on her shoulders. But we get up and we try again, right?
