Waris Dirie was born in Somalia in 1965, was subjected to female genital mutilation at age 5, and fled the country at 13 to escape an arranged marriage. Now, she’s a supermodel, author, and activist. “My goal is to eradicate female genital mutilation worldwide during my lifetime. I will never move away from that. First, she won the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. Now, Nadia Murad is using every penny of her prize money to fight against sexual violence and trafficking.
