During this project the thing I found the most hard was time management, as it was a self directed project there was less direction. I think next time I should set out a plan from the beginning to try stick to it to help my get enough work done. I liked finding different ways to distort images, like using photography, even though using images if myself felt embarrassing, it pushed me to find different ways of working as I normally stick to the same type of drawing.

I decided to use ink to try create more abstract looking portraits. This isn’t something I would normally do but I felt that a lot of the time I get too focused on detail, so by using ink it meant i had to go straight in and not think about what i was drawing too much.
Oil and acrylic paintings by Benjamin GarcÃa - I like these paintings as I feel that the movement of the faces portrays a lot of emotion, even though not all of the features are shown. Personally theses paintings shiw worry and anxiousness through the mark makings and multiple features.

For my personal project I am looking at distortion of the face. I’m looking at the physical distortions from glasses, cameras etc. I’m also looking at the mental aspect of it where things like anxiety can create a distorted sense of yourself and reality. I’m using materials like charcoal as I find this can create a faded image very well and it is easy to move about quite freely. I am also experimenting with pens, as this isn’t something I would normally use so it can help me step out of my comfort zone.
This image creates a sense of anxiety and vigilance, for example being in a busy space and having to always be looking around to see if people are staring. The drawing contrasts from more to less detail from one face to another, this shows how you may see a distorted image of yourself and not knowing what you actually look like to others.
