OT 2017:

5 - PAÍS TROPICAL - GROUPAL

This was the opening number for my favourite OT 2017 gala, a lot of my favourite songs are from this week, among them my favourite song from this edition!!!

Here are other songs that I can’t put in my top 5 but were performed in this gala and are amazing: Sign of the Times - Alfred, Procuro Olvidarte - Aitana, What About Us - Miriam, Love On The Brain - Amaia & Cuando Duermes - Miriam and Alfred (I told you, this was the best week)

About the song, it is without doubt my favourite groupal (”La Revolución Sexual” comes second though) and it is just pure fun, like it makes you want to dance and hypes you up. It always puts a smile on my face. Also, I love when they sing in other languages apart from English or Spanish, so that’s also a win for me.

4 - INVISIBLE / WHAT ABOUT US - MIRIAM

I couldn’t choose guys. I tried. I really tried. I was just gonna put Invisible because I had already put What About Us up there, but I couldn’t. It’s physically impossible to me to say which is better. Anyways, here is Invisible performance. You have What About Us in number 5. 

These two songs are perfect examples of why Miriam was my favourite contestant, her fierceness, her cunning, her talent... I love her, she’s raw and pure emotion. And she was even more amazing live, in the tour OT 2017 did when it ended. There’s actually a photo of me on Twitter smiling but crying my heart out during her performance of Invisible. I need to see her in her own tour asap. Here are her performances of these songs in the tour I just talked about: Invisible & What About Us.

Finally, (I’m sorry being so pushy with her but she deserves the world, during the contest she received a lot of hate but nevertheless she ended up 3rd and now has a really promising career ahead of her, she announced she was working on her second album this past month), here is a live performance of one of her singles, “No!” , ( a song you have to hear), in the last concert of the tour, where everybody sung their singles and whatnot, so you can see how she continues to be amazing. 

3 - SHAKE IT OUT - AMAIA

I’ve seen this video like what, 10 times, 15? And it still gets me every. single. time. Like damn. For a lot of people this was the best song not only of OT 2017 but for OT in general, and I agree with them, objectively this song is the best, only that I subjectively like two songs more.

After this song, everybody knew Amaia was gonna win. People would have rioted if she hadn’t. She was crowned Queen of Spain by Twitter and from that day on, everybody remembered that performance. It was a boom. And after OT, she has released a really beautiful album, “Pero No Pasa Nada”, I personally really like it, here and here are her two singles that I love. Even though she isn’t commercially successful per se, she is highly praised within music experts and even people who don’t know OT love her. One of her biggest fans is Rosalía (yup. THAT Rosalía), who came to her last concert in Madrid’s Royal Theater. 

And live is breathtaking, I also cried during this performance in the tour, here is how she sounded. 

2- MIEDO - AMAIA

Yeah I couldn’t rank Miriam’s songs but I could with Amaia’s deal with it. I like this song best, because this is my favourite Amaia;  playing the piano or any other instrument. And the power this song has, of just forgetting about everything else, until there’s only Amaia and her beautiful voice.

I know a lot of people that were indifferent about OT or disliked / hated it that discovered this song and this performance and fell in love with Amaia, and now are greatest fans of her and appreciate OT a bit more which is also nice. Here was her live performance of the song during the tour (I was there, in that concert!!!)

1 - ELOISE - AGONEY

How iconic is this performance like. The attitude. The dance. The fashion sense. Those white rope-y thingies. And those highs. THOSE HIGHS OMG. Like, Agoney had the best voice in all of that OT, and he didn’t even was finalist??? (still not over that ngl). Anyways, this song is amazing, and he is amazing. Here is how it was live, my sister, cousin and I went crazy in the concert, we sorta did the choreography (my cousin and I tried, my sister did it perfectly) and we have it as “our song”. 

OT 2018

5- SEPTEMBER - MARTA & FAMOUS

This spot was really tight, I was between three songs this time and I was about to do like the Miriam songs, but then I decided to go with quantity over quality and chose the duet. The other two songs are equally as amazing and I can’t recommend them enough, they are: 90 Minutos - Julia and And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going - Famous. Fun fact, I shipped these two during the contest, I was the only one that did it, and I knew nothing would come from it but yeah, I was really excited when they finally got their duet!! And it was awesome! Marta loves the 70s and 80s and Famous is Famous so it was like a match made in Heaven for them. Here is their live performance of this song! Oh and, as I’ve showed you my favourite solo song of Famous already (And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going), here is my favourite from Marta, One More Try!

After OT they both starred in the Spanish musical La Llamada (Famous as God himself) although only Marta is still a regular there. They both have released singles too, Bulla (Famous) and Por Ti (Marta). 

4 - THIS IS ME - GROUPAL

Here is the performance. This was their first group song, after only one week in the Academy. And for me it’s the best groupal not only in OT 2018, but in OT in general. I prefer it in the Second Mic Pass though, here it is, it’s amazing, And here it is sung live, this was the opener for the tour, and it was so freaking amazing. I still listen to the song regularly in Spotify and it never ceases to amaze me.

3 - THE SCIENTIST - NATALIA

This performance is so mesmerizing and Natalia’s voice hooks you up so much. It’s truly beautiful and emotional, just like the original. It’s just plain gorgeous. And it was even better in the live tour, when she played the piano too. Here is a video of it. It becomes 10% better, it is truly mesmerizing, similar to Amaia’s performance of Miedo. And they are both from the same city, Pamplona (and two contestants of OT 2020 too, what the hell is happening there that everybody has talent???).

After OT she has made an amazing EP, “Otras Alas”, with two singles, one of them you might already know if you watch Skam España, as it appeared in Season 3, and the other is my favourite song from 2019 and it’s one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Also, she released acoustic versions of some other songs of her, and they are equally amazing; Otras Alas and Olivia.

2 - LA LLORONA - ALBA RECHE

People, I present you Alba Reche. Some think this is the best song of the edition, it’s normally either this one or my number one spot, but either way, this performance was incredible. The original Chavela Vargas song is one of my favourite songs ever and Alba does the song justice holy shit. The power and emotion, it is absolutely incredible. Here is the song live. Like I’ll never get over this song istg.

After OT Alba has released an album “Quimera” that’s absolutely amazing and my favourite album from OT 2018, my favourite single of hers is this one.

1- SHE USED TO BE MINE - ALBA RECHE

This song. And this performance. Wow. Like, it’s so beautiful and so incredible. This song is what prompted me to start listening to musicals, and right now that’s one of my favourite genres. Also I remember my favourite performance of this song by Alba, on an acting class where they had to do a scene before the song, like it was a musical or something, and she was show-stopping there. After singing this song, Sara Bareilles herself thanked her and she appeared in The New York Times as a recommendation from Sara herself; and finally, when Waitress opened in London, they invited Alba to see it. OT 2020

5- PROMETO - GÈRARD

This is the most underrated performance of OT 2020 for sure, he was so fucking good, with perfect vocals and the right amount of emotion. To quote Anne Lukin, one of the other contestants and his current girlfriend; “if they tell him he doesn’t emote, show them this performance”. He was so good, and he was done so dirty. Also, the fact that “Prometo” by itself is one of the most beautiful songs ever written also helps.

4- SARGENTO DE HIERRO - MAIALEN

Before anything, I have to let you know the number 4 and number 3 spot was really tight, so think more of this performance as the top 3 bis or something like that lol. Anyways, thanks to OT 2020 we could discover Maialen, one of the most pure and interesting persons I’ve ever met, she has something special that is perfectly shown in this breathtaking performance. Again, it also helps that “Sargento de Hierro” is already fucking incredible, one of the most emotional songs ever.

3- NANA DEL MEDITERRÁNEO - ANAJU

This performance was everything. And this song, that I didn’t know of before, fits so fucking well with Anaju, it feels like her own song. As Maialen said, this is her style. I would listen to her all of my life if she sings song like this one, cause this performance gave me literal chills. Spectacular.

2- HALO - NIA

It was soooo hard to choose this one guys. For the longest time I was gonna put three songs cause I couldn’t choose for the life of me. And I decided that “Halo” was slightly better than the other two in the last minute, so please, go watch “Run The World (Girls)” and “Say Something” performances cause they’re incredible. What can I say about Nia, other than she’s a Goddess and that it’s no shocker she was the winner given that she didn’t have a bad performance in all of the contest. Even her worst performance, “El Triste”, was good. She’s amazing and she deserves the world, and with Halo she showed everyone what she’s capable of vocally.
