Black Girl Magic Speed Paint
Speed Paint of Anxiety Song: Mad Hatter Melanie Martinez
On the interwebs mental illness is often stylized and praised. I have nothing against stylizing it for the sake of awareness or even education. Many artists have successfully created painting portraying metal illnesses in a way to help people better understand them. And that is great! But, lately I have seen a lot of pictures and posts almost praising these things. As if depression and anxiety are another part of the teenage/young adult experience. This infatuation with depression and anxiety is not okay. Anxiety is not fun. It's terrifying and can take over a life if not dealt with properly. The constant feeling of everything falling apart isn't to be sought after. It's to be helped. So my tumblr (it's mostly there, but any other social media) peeps, please stop praising depression, self harm, anorexia, and anxiety. These are real issues, not just quotes over a random filtered photo. And if you are like me, and have anxiety. If you have depression or any other metal illness and need help here are some good numbers to call. Find help, you're not alone.
