A month.
It’s been a month.
It’s been a month since the desk across Charlie’s at SHIELD headquarters has been empty.
A month since her SO had disappeared off the radar.
For the first few days Bobbi went radio silent, Charlie didn’t mind. After all, those were common in this line of work. But when those silent days turns into weeks and now, into a month, Charlie couldn’t deny that she was worried for Bobbi. Of course, she knew that Bobbi was those kind of people who always had a plan, but still.
Little things have changed because of Bobbi’s absence. For starters, she was in charge of flying the bus more than she was used to. Not that she was complaining. Charlie liked flying. Seeing the views from the cockpit. Pushing buttons and pulling levers on the dashboard. The silent hum of engines in the background.
Another change was that she was put in the field more often, because with Bobbi gone, she was the only agent who had scientific knowledge and combat skills. Getting her hands dirty on the field was nice every once in a while, the rush of adrenaline that sharpened her senses, being able to feel through her skin that she was actually doing something to make the world a better place, punching bad guys.
As she started to descend the altitude of the plane, she ran over her mission today over in her head: Install a bomb underground, right over where HYDRA keeps its data-analyzing equipment, override and extract intel. She decided to not go too far and plan out how she was going to incapacitate HYDRA agents who even dared to stand in her way: she’d learned over the years that combat was one of those things that you could never plan ahead of.
After a long and steady exhale, Charlie took her headphones off and headed to the landing pit of the plane to land with the rest of her (and Bobbi’s) team.
“ Alright, time to get shit done. “ Charlie sighed as she disappeared into the underground passage ways, her hands heavy with gear.
