The apology catches Laurel of guard and her gate falters ever so slightly beside the other woman. The Santana she remembers would have never led with an apology. A sincere one at that. “So you’ve dropped the descriptors and are just down to asshole these days?” Laurel replies. It’s an unnecessary barb that at least lacks the harsh tone that started in her office. She might be one for second chances, but she’s been burned enough to be wary as well.

She lets out a sigh and her shoulder drop as she lets some of her rigidity unravel. “The apology is appreciated.” Laurel is all too aware at how many people in her life are spectacularly bad at apologizing to her. “And would have been accepted without the coffee. Though it doesn’t hurt. I live off caffeine.” A side affect of day and night job, however unofficial her second one might be.
