hi! i've wanted to read some cyclops stuff for ages... could you rec me some issues? đ some of your faves, some issues you think are important for him, etc.?
OF COURSE I AM ALWAYS WILLING TO REC STUFF FOR MY MAN !
what i usually recommend to people who donât wanna read through sixty-plus years of comics is this ( it looks like a lot but itâs really just a lot of skimming tbh ):
- start with something silver age-y, like the original uncanny x-men ( issues 1-67 ) or x-men: first class and x-men: first class finals ( 2006-2007 ) if you donât want to deal with the hokiness of the silver age sfjksfkl ( or even x-men: season one! )
- then skim through some of claremontâs uncanny x-men - the phoenix saga ( issues 101-108 ) and the dark phoenix saga ( issues 129-138 ) are especially important for scott and jean
- you can kinda skip over the rest of it until the battle for leadership of the x-men in issue 170, and scott marries maddy in issue 175
- then we switch to x-factor, and you can read the first few issues for background while skimming over most everything else until inferno
- inferno is complicated but if you read x-factor issues 35-40 then you get a good look at scott, maddy, and sinister ( also itâs TRAGIC prepare yourself for tears )
- we switch over to adjectiveless x-men with the blue team next ( you can skim / read the wiki for this, but itâs a lot like x-men: the animated series ), and here we have apocalypse: the twelve
- apocalypseâs possession of scott is continued in x-men: the search for cyclops, but thatâs not essential if you donât have time
- then we reach morrisonâs new x-men, and if you hate him like i do, you can read the wikipedia page instead of having to go through morrisonâs misogyny
- after that iâd go with whedonâs astonishing x-men ( which is a short read and itâs very good ), then skim the wiki page for house of m and manifest destiny
- UTOPIA UTOPIA UTOPIA. this is actually one of my favorite storylines, full stop. itâs a crossover, but the full tpb is online!
- schism is probably next, and itâs very sad ( scott and loganâs divorce comic ), and regenesis doesnât matter
- if you can stomach bendy ass ( b*ndis ), then iâd read avx ( no tie ins, those are stupid )
- uncanny vol. 3 is hit or miss but there are some very good scott moments so iâd skim the wiki page and read the issues you want to
- we donât acknowledge charles soule on this blog and i hate death of x so you can ignore that
my personal recs that do involve some knowledge of continuity ( which you can skim on scottâs marvel wiki page ):
- of course, utopia... iâm gay and i rec this to everyone. itâs very very good. ( also if you liked dark reign like i did then this is hella good content! )
- i love inferno. thereâs a tpb somewhere, and iâd definitely read all of it if you want to, because itâs a whole hell of a lot of important developments for everyone from scott and maddy to illyana to even harry osborn.
- along with inferno, x-factor vol. 1 is just a really good book. the o5 are excellent ( aside from scott leaving maddy like a dick ), and itâs definitely worth a read. it goes over scottâs past with sinister in depth, and this is very important to him as a character, but big tw for abuse with this book.
- iâll also rec children of the atom, because itâs also a great look at scottâs past ( but again, big, big tw for abuse ) and the formation of the x-men.
- avx was very very bad but if youâre ready to cry, avx: consequences is one of my least favorite books out there because it makes me So. Fucking. Sad! kieron gillen owns my ass because of this series. heâs a stellar writer and his scott characterization is PEAK.
- i listed astonishing x-men above, and holy shit itâs so good! even extending past the whedon run into warrenâs and up until pakâs exalted. definitely worth a read-through. if you like scemma, this is for you.
- bendy ass choke challenge but. i will admit that i like certain issues of uncanny vol. 3, especially issue 2 ( the scemma moments fucking kill me every time ) and issue 32 ( alex and scott being good brothers is all i need in life tbh ). i canât remember the other ones i really liked because i would fight bendis over his poor characterization of scott.
- honestly uncanny x-men vol. 1 from after manifest destiny to the end is some of the best modern shit for scott out there. heâs really, really fantastic here, and he doesnât always make the best choices, but heâs very human, and you can really see how much heâs changed over time. ( i think the line, â not a militia. an army, â is one of the best defining scott quotes from this series and i could talk for ages about his differing approaches in this era. )
okay thatâs all i think i can reasonably post dfsklsdfj but tysm for this ask!!! i love talking about him and if you ever have any questions / comments / concerns about this stuff, just im me!! i will be delighted to oblige
âThink of it this way: it could have been a lot worse.â
â COMFORT STARTERS // ACCEPTING
@agentvencm
â â A STERN EXPRESSION glossed over his already harsh features - perhaps it was that extra hardened pinch in his brow that made him look FAR more angrier than he was, or maybe it was the light, either way - it was hard to accept such consolation even if it was from a friend who had indeed been through rough times.
That was his mentality at most times; there were always folks who had it worse, or it couldâve been worse. But at the moment his annoyance seemed to supercede his better judgement.
His azures fell from the man he was talking to, toward his tattered uniform; his modesty covered by a makeshift rag he had fashioned from the remains of his star spangled attire, which had been utterly obliterated. That wasnât an overstatement either - what he had left could be compared to that of a local of the savage lands; a loin cloth made of tatters.
â  Iâm sorry son, but Iâm strugglinâ to think of how it could be worse⊠My uniform was supposed to be resistant to all typesâa things. But this? Who wouldâve thought Fin-Fang-Foom had changed his abilities to this degree⊠Iâm going to need a new uniform, and clothes would help. Any clothes.  â

Night is just a dreaded time. It always has been when youâre an insomniac.
Rosie lie awake as she did every night, exhausted by work and yet sleep eludes her time and time again. Her eyes drawn to the ceiling, restlessly rolling about for something to fixate on. Not even the soft melody of vinyâll records soothed her. Not the gentle breathing of the two dogs curled up in the bed with her.. Not the rhythmic whir of the blowing Ac.  Nothing worked.
Nothing stopped her mind from racing with the projects and work that still had to be done. Cases unsolved, guilt lurking in her sub-conscience, and the dread of what awaited in the land of nightmares all deterred her further. You need to sleep.. Youâll get worse.  Just go to sleep.     Go to sleep. Go to sleep.. Come on, Go to sleep. Just count the sheep.   One, Two, Three..Four..
â This is so stupid..â Annoyed, she whispered harshly to herself, and with a huff she turned again in her sheets for the 10th time in the last few hours. The dogs grumble with her motion, the smaller shepard giving a small whine while adjusting himself closer once again. The digital clock read 2:00am inglaring red numbers on the nightstand, and reading that ripples an exhausted sigh from her lips.A few more hours and its time for work⊠Great..Â
Why cant she just get some sleep? All her paperwork was done for the night. There was nothing left to do.. The city streets are just too dangerous to walk at night (as the paranoid mind reasoned),all she wanted was for something to help her down..   Then there came the vibrating rumble of her phone on the table.
âWah?â The sound stirred the two dogs as it angrily buzzed on the wooden top, Sergeant quickly raising his groggy head as Rosie scooped up her phone and lit up the screen. The light stung her eyes, blinding enough to make her hiss, but it was no worse than the crusty feeling of heavy eyelids as sjhe struggled to read the name of the caller.   Blink, once.. Twice..   Rub your eyes.Â
       â  CORPORAL FLASH T. - G.I. JOE â
Flash? What could he need?
The heaviness of sleep is quickly pushed aside of Rosie sat herself up in bed, Irking the dogs enough for the last time that they went so far as to bury their heads under the pillows. Rosie muttered a quick apology before fishing around in the drawer for earbuds, hoping the call would not come to an end before then. She managed to yank them out, and only half untagled them before she answered the call and quickly stuck the bud into her perked ears. Concern etched across her face as she focused on the voice on the other side, and tried to hide any remnant of her previous attempt of sleep.
â Flash? Hey.. Hey, whaâcha doin up so late? â The sound of her friend made her smile.. the thought of a distraction was perfect. Having human company.. maybe thats what she needed. A hand lazily rubbed at her eyes to get the crust out of them,
â Alseep? No, No, I uh.. I just finsihed some paperwork.Whats up? Ya need me to come over? â
