like a lot of of Fan People, I enjoy ships that have fun and funky power imbalances going on to poke and prod at, but alas recently I've come to the heart-rending realization that one of the power imbalances I actively enjoy poking at is gender so I am really Quite well disposed to liking het ships. which is not only embarrassing and tragic but also infuriating because all the people who want to be weird about gender (/pos) are over at other tables being gay meanwhile almost all the people left at this table are the ones who are weird about gender (/neg). please, I'm not here because I hate women, I'm here because I want to explore the wild fantasy concept of a man actually being concerned about accidentally mistreating the woman he's in love with. the plight of the bisexual hetjoshi is endless.

first off, what a cool blog! i always fear fictionkin stuff on tumblr is a bit of a bygone relic so it makes me happy to see them still around, what you're doing is cool and i'm sure you have seen many interesting stories over the years, i get lost in scrolling this sorta thing. thank you for what you do!
anyway it's always bittersweet to see kinfessions that are years old for your semi-obscure source, no idea if they even have interest in it anymore or still feel the same way, but there's still this, well, kinship bwl. i saw a samantha and i wish i could talk to her, even if just for a passing kin and shared interest she may have had four years ago. if any hypnospace outlaw kins are still around: heya! it's roddy wall! that's me! you guys are awesome! 🐂💕 no hard feelings on the brain frying btw it makes for pretty badass art
HELLO... for the reverse unpopular opinion ask meme, may i request kind words about my underrated fav cheryl hamlin. OR, if she is too obscure, lydia!
YEEEEAAAAAA CHERYL!!!!!!! LET'S GOOO mrs. hamlin im so fucking sorry i thought your husband was gay for five and a half seasons. forgive me .
ANYWAY putting up my clark warding banner again since she's hard to talk about without a looming orbit of spoilers lol
it's a shame cheryl doesnt have a Whole lot of screentime but fortunately i have spent five years latching onto minor yugioh spinoff characters nobody gives a shit about so i am well trained in these rugged lands. what screentime we DO get her is so potent and thats such a testament to how goddamn good this show's writing and character building is, for real. She really has to take the brunt of some of the worst shit Kim has ever done in this entire series and she didnt just survive, she gets to actively press back against it, gets to call her out on the awfulness of it all. My mom learned from going to grief groups that the sort of grief someone who's lost a loved one to suicide goes through is just its own special kind of crushingly painful, and the fact Cheryl just had to go through that for years and didn't break into a million pieces is a testament to how strong she is... her spirit is just absolute titanium, and it's so easy to see what drew Howard to her/what he no doubt admired about her.
It's really interesting to me how she actually has a lot of parallels to Chuck, both of them not just 'people really important to Howard' but also both being victims of just the nastiest, most convoluted gaslighting in their entire show, and them both knowing in their guts that they're right (even though no one will believe them.) I think they maybe got along, in my heart of hearts. I think Cheryl could go toe to toe with Chuck's fussy OCD 2 snippiness easily.
SHE'S JUST SO FUCKING SAD, MAN. GOD FUCKING DAMN. One of my absolute favorite BCS fics I've ever read is about Cheryl [spoilers, of course, for season 6] and I will take any chance to hype it up, it makes her relationship with Howard and the love she has for him feel so fleshed out beyond the stray pieces we got in canon and it's got prime "I genuinely feel this is what happened in postcanon im cosigning this" concepts. WAH. DABS AT MY BIG WET EYES
also bonus but BCSmon AU cheryl is Braixen (Delphox, later) I've decided :3

WAIT for the ask meme can i also request, if you are acquainted with it at all, bridge-era yugioh? (sevens go rush etc)
YEEASSSSSSSS oh i will HAPPILY gush about bridge era ygo.....im actually making my way through Sevens right now!! (im like...22 episodes in, it's been slow going since like november because i keep getting blown up by Vince Gilligan's Wild Ride LMAO)
I am ADORING it so far tho. I don't mind taking it so slow since it's the shortest series and I wanna savor it!! I LOOOVE the cast, theyre so endearing, and the tone is just such a charming level of Very Silly and Shamelessly Ridiculous But Very Earnest in a way I love to bits. I'm excited to watch more, especially having met a lot of the cast in duel links already (Goha siblings gonna hit the Danagon like a ballistic missile I fear.) AND a lot of my friends have Sevens up really high on their ygo series rankings and consider it one of the best so I'm lookin forward to where it's gonna end up on mine :3
I haven't seen Go Rush yet, I'm definitely going to after i get through Sevens, but I've got a bit of exposure to the cast from playing duel links and I LIKE THEM SOOO MUCH TOO HEHEHE. people are so hard on the bridge series and it's like, yeah go rush is kind of a mess but let's not pretend thats some Bridge Era Specific Problem With Yugioh. Lol. Looks Directly At Arc-V. the actual cast of go rush is delightful, Yudias and Zwiijo are both really cool variants of the yutag/rival formula, and ALSO ALL THE DECK ARCHETYPES KICK ASS. THEYRE ALL SO GODDAMN COOL. YUAMU'S COMPUTER DRAGONS
im a valiant yugioh spinoff warrior and im happy to take up the blade to defend the bridge era and gush about it; people get SO fucking nasty about it and it's so..... man, nobody is Making you watch it. I'm sorry the franchise that's meant to sell trading cards to children made a series geared to a younger audience than you. cope. me i'll be over here rocking out with my girl Romin!!!!
Favourite thing about them: For as snarky as his dialogue gets at times, I adore just how much he's motivated by love. The way that he holds Lynn's and Jessica's hands when walking with them, the way he gently rocks the "baby", when he tries to protect Ethan from the truth that his daughter is dead, "find Lynn, nothing matters but Lynn"... he's the very definition of "it ended in tragedy but the love was there". I'm sick.
Least favourite thing about them: His lack of stamina </3 I'm so used to practically speedrunning all of the games I play and I can't do that with Outlast II.
Favourite line: "We're out. I got Jessica out. It was cold but the snow had just started. We'll find a grown up and we'll tell them what happened. We'll be okay. It's not my fault." for the tragedy of it all, and "Oh, fuck me!" for the delivery.
brOTP: I like to imagine that he and Miles were friends before their respective Murkoff Adventures, having exchanged sources and tips for their journalism. He admired Miles' commitment to investigating stories that would've otherwise gone untold, and Miles admired Blake's commitment to the finding out the truth.
OTP: Blake/Lynn. Generic answer? Maybe. But Red Barrels made me care so so much about reuniting them. They balance each other.
nOTP: I don't think I have one? I love Blake/Lynn, post-game Blake/Miles, one-sided Blake/Jessica, and one-sided Blake/Val. Maybe Blake/Waylon, but not in a "I hate it" way, more of a "I just don't see them being interested in each other" way.
Random headcanon: You cannot convince me that this man didn't have an edgy metalhead Hot Topic phase when he reached his teenage years. His childhood username was BlakeAgainstTheMachine! The signs are there!
Unpopular opinion: I think this was a bigger deal when the game first came out but Blake isn't any weaker than Miles or Waylon. People tend to forget that he's just been in a helicopter crash, and is going up against people who've been under the influence of Murkoff's radio waves for decades (which we know cause physical effects since Lynn quite literally dies from it) AND are armed with knives, machetes, flaming arrows, etc. If anything, he's incredibly resilient for taking all of the abuse he suffers over the course of the game and trucking along until the collapse of Temple Gate.
Song I associate with them: "O Light" by Kikuo.
Favourite picture of them: This is such a funny thing to answer with a faceless protagonist. This one from the comics. Why does he have so much hair. He looks like an emo kid.
I just jumped up and down. I like that guy!!! (ask game!)
favorite thing about them
I love his colorful language and insight via his notes. I'M LEARNING MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS ARE ALL HATERS. Did he have to dig into Trager for talking "like a white collar business school douchebag," with "a set of golf clubs in the trunk of his Audi?" No. Did he waste time writing in his notepad about it anyways? Yes.
I also like(?) seeing how he deteriorates overtime. For Trager, Miles says he wants to see him die. And that's post-finger-amputations. By the end of the game, well, he killed Billy himself! Whenever he gets into the buzzing or the noise he hears throughout the facility, how by the end he just wants freedom, death or otherwise...he is just not well. I think that's really cool to experience through the main character, and gives a lot of insight into how the Engine really was affecting so many people.
least favorite thing about them
Probably his design? LOL. It's not BAD, it's very 2013 horror protagonist, which is what he literally is. He's the blueprint. I just think it's a bit bland. He really needed that Walrider glow up.
favorite line(s)
"I've said it before, but fuck this place. I've still got those fingers left."
"Give me a hacksaw and a few hours alone with Dr. Wernicke's corpse. I feel I owe him a debt."
brOTP
When they're not fused together, I like the Walrider floating around Miles and judging him and trying to kill him. Frenemies!
I like the fanart where Chris and Miles are hanging out. They could've tried to help each other if it wasn't for the extreme circumstances.
OTP
ONCE AGAIN, IS IT ROMANTIC TO FUSE TOGETHER INTO A NEW PERSON? I posed this question to my sister who plays Trials with me and she said that's the plot of Steven Universe. So make of that what you will.
I love Billy and Miles fusing together. They're very much a package deal to me...I'm literally just repeating myself when it comes to the Liliya parallels so. I like that Miles was actually completely unsympathetic to Billy, but you can really ask and posit how much that changed once they become a part of the Walrider. After all, they went to Billy's home first in Account. I also like that they killed Jeremy Blaire, that was sick and cool for them to do together after everything.
nOTP
Hmmm. I guess with someone like Trager? NOT LIKE, a super hard nOTP here. I like Trager and I'm sure there's something interesting to talk about there, but I feel like Trager doesn't care thattttt much for Miles. Like he hates that Father Martin likes him but it's not like Trager is that upset by the whole thing. Miles is just another for the operating table, Trager was following the same mold he was doing to other patients. I just don't have anything intriguing to dissect about it.
random headcanon
I know he ran a mean blog just talking about random bullshit, given that his notetaking does come off as someone who loves to journal. RIP Miles, you would've had an iconic Tumblr account.
unpopular opinion
Outlast 1 has that uncomfortable, "Are we meant to emphasize with the Variants or be horribly scared of them for being bald and ugly?" vibe. I think the answer to that is both (which is not great), and part of that is because of Miles being the protag he is.
I think it's fine that he's abrasive. I think it's even fine that he's not sympathetic to the patients all the time. Plenty are trying to hurt him. I do think it could've been focused on more as a flaw of Miles that he is so brash in judgement. I think that IS a central theme of the series, people using appearance to demonize others or mask their own intentions. It just doesn't hit quite right in 1 without taking later entries into account.
song i associate with them
Sorry to do a Miles/Billy song instead of the prompt. Anyways:
A Smaller God by Darling Violetta
favorite picture of them
Get thrown, idiot. (I actually laugh about this opening cutscene all the time. How'd Chris sneak up so quietly...)
