He’s the last one to get his briefing. It doesn’t surprise him, not the way the president looked at him when they’d met the first time. She’d recognized him, there’s no doubt about that. That quick stare at his scarred face had said it all, and he’d ignored her eyes on him as he’d limped away and to the small group of other Victors.
Still, she’s got a job to do, and so he’s walking to her office with his hands in his pockets, ignoring the faces he passes in favor of ruminating on the turn of events. Really quite a situation they’re all in, but he doesn’t mind. Gives them all something to do, at least.
He knocks on her door, waiting patiently for her to answer it, unaware of his own eerie stillness as he does so. He’s out of place here; no one knows that better than him.
