America and Russia were the forefront. Unknown to these two superpowers was a new player. Zambia was joining the race to put a man and woman on the moon and even go further -- TO MARS. This was the dream of Edward Mukuka Nkoloso, the man who believed way back in 1964 that Zambia could win the space race. Despite his achievements as a soldier, anti-colonialist and teacher, his interesting space academy and the training of his space cadets known as the Afronauts are his most well-known legacy.
