Kouha glared harshly to his despicable cousin, funny how his entire family, except for three people, he could care less about. However, luckily for Hakuryuu, Kouha hated his own father more than him, so he barely missed being most hated. Once the former Emperor left under the harsh gaze of Kouha, “To think he thought I’d welcome him with open arms, the idiot.”
What Kouha didn’t expect is to see his dear sister and Empress look down, eyes seeming to have sorrow and hope. “What’s the matter, ‘Gyoku?” It was then he heard her tell him about the struggles she went through, begging the man who used her, for food to feed her people. ‘I wanted to make you proud.’ Kouha’s eyes widened just slightly, confused as to why she’d want to make him proud.
“I’m the last person you need to worry about making proud.” He was the rebel child after all, defiant and with no fear or respect for their deadbeat father. When his initial wave off of her words, he noticed the shift in mood, she looked sorrowful. Letting a breath escape his nose, he took one of her long strands of hair in his hands, “I can say I am proud of you. You made the Empire better than Hakutoku, Koutoku, the devil woman, and especially Hakuryuu. If there’s one person I’m happy to serve, is you.”
Braiding the long strand, he gave her a smile, one genuine to only his true family, “I know Brother En would be proud of you too. To be honest had Hakuryuu been on the throne, I wouldn’t have agreed to leave that island. Though it isn’t much from me, I am proud of you. Keep being yourself and rule with your own iron fist, and I’ll forever be proud of you, sister.” By the end, he had grabbed the second long strand of hair and braided it and rested both braids over her shoulders to admire his handiwork. “So, don’t worry about trying to make me proud anymore, okay? You already have.”
