Adrinette Month Day 2 - Rainy Day
I’m still behind but!!! I’m getting there
Oh the Irony
“Come on! Let’s take a walk.” Adrien gave his best wide, warm smile.
“It’s raining, Agreste.” Alya gave him a flat look. “We don’t have an umbrella. You may be a sunshine child, but I would rather not get wet.”
“It’s barely even drizzling.” Adrien said, pouting.
“Nuh-uh dude.” Nino said as he slung his shoulder around his girlfriend. “I think we’ll just have to call a cab.”
“But it’s only a few blocks away!” Adrien pouted some more. “I gave my driver a day off, and this is one of the only times I get to walk to places.”
“Sorry, man.” Nino said apologetically. “But I’m still recovering from the flu and I don’t want to get sick again.”
Sighing, Adrien nodded in resignation.
“I’ll walk with you.” A soft shy voice chirped up.
Adrien looked at the girl with bright eyes. A blush was spread across her cheeks, and she tried to hide her eyes with her bangs.
“Really, Marinette?” he exclaimed happily.
Slightly dazed by his ecstatic green eyes, Marinette tried to keep her nervous stutter out of her sentences. “Su-sure. But can we just stop by my house for a moment?”
“No problem!” Adrien said, practically bouncing from one foot to the other. His excitement was so overwhelming that he wasn’t able to catch Alya discreetly wink at Marinette. Marinette, however, blushed to her ears.
“Alright, we’ll see you at the café!” Alya called out as she and Nino headed out to find a cab.
“See you!” Adrien waved them goodbye, and beckoned for Marinette.
………..
The walk to her house was quiet- just the passing noises of the cars and the light patter of the rain. But for Marinette, she couldn’t hear any of it. All she heard was the mantra that she kept repeating in her head.
I can do this. I can do this. I can do this. I’m going to tell Adrien how I feel.
With that she opened her mouth to finally tell him, but before she could get any words out, Adrien spoke.
“You know, I’ve always loved the rain.” Adrien said wistfully.
Marinette stared at the sad yet dreamy look on his face. “Why is that?”
“Because my mother once did too.” He said softly.
A comfortable moment of silence passed before Adrien took in a gentle breath and continued. “She would tell me stories whenever it rained. And when the weather wasn’t too bad, we’d take and umbrella and go for stroll down the road, maybe stop by at a nearby bakery to get hot chocolate.”
Adrien glanced at the girl beside him, and gave her a small smile.
“You remind me of her sometimes.”
Marinette cocked her head to the side. “How so?”
“I don’t really know.” Adrien paused for a moment, “I think it is because you both are kind, and sweet and gentle. But somehow, also strong, compassionate and determined.”
He let out a shaky laugh as he remembered his mother. “She used to be so clumsy too.”
“She sounds lovely.” Marinette smiled, melting at his soft look.
“She was.” Adrien beamed genuinely. It was moments like this that he could remember his mom in peace- his memories somehow bringing happiness instead of pain.
He reached out a gave Mari’s hand a squeeze. “Thank you, Mari.”
She gave it a small squeeze back. “Tell me a story.”
He offered her a grateful smile. “I can’t really remember much of the stories she told me. I can give you an abridged version though.”
Mari nodded in understanding.
“My mother was trying to explain to me the water cycle once, and she came up with the story. She told me that the rain water comes from the sea. The goddess that lived there couldn’t choose who she loved more, the god of the land or the god of the sky. Every few days the sky calls to her- the god would send down his winds to whisk the goddess away to his home. The sky god was cocky and confident, he tried to woo the sea through his muscles and charms. He was genuine though, but the sea probably never really realized it, and as much as the sea loved him, she was still torn.”
“After a while, she’d fall back into the land god’s arms- literally. She’d be so happy to see him, she’s practically kissing the ground he walks on as she slowly descends down from heaven. The land god was sweet and gentle. He probably never noticed just how much the sea loved him. He loved her though, he just couldn’t tell her. And maybe that was part of the reason why the goddess couldn’t choose.”
Adrien let out a sad sigh. “The cycle went on and on. The goddess couldn’t decide, and so the gods couldn’t tell her. They wanted to, they really truly did. But there were rules, and so they could never tell her. She’d have to find out for herself.”
“Tell her what?” Marinette asked entrancedly.
Adrien gave a soft chuckle. “That they were the same person.”
With that, Marinette also chuckled. Oh the irony. If only Adrien would realize that Ladybug and I are the same person.
If only Ladybug would realize that Chat and I are the same person. Adrien thought dreamily.
“That sounds romantic.” Marinette whispered.
“And a bit angsty.” Adrien replied as they finally stopped in front of the Dupain-Cheng’s bakery.
Shifting a bit awkwardly, Marinette asked Adrien to wait in front of the shop as she quickly ducked in. When she came out, she was clutching an umbrella and two cups of hot chocolate.
“I got us some hot chocolate. And I’ve been meaning to give this back.” She opened the umbrella and offered it to Adrien. “Here.”
Adrien stared at the amazing girl, who without even trying, managed to get him to share a memory he never shared with anyone. The girl that he had just realized was always there for him, always ready to help him (or anyone). The girl that was both strong and caring. A sweet and gentle girl- her bright blue eyes stared at him with so much light. Her smile was enough to warm him up.
An amazing girl, who reminded him so much of his mother- and now he knew why.
Her smile. You have her smile.
Only one other girl had made him feel this way.
With a shocked look, he took the umbrella. A distant thunder clap startled Adrien, enough so that he managed to press a wrong button and sent the umbrella flapping down on him.
Adrien blushed under the cover of darkness, cringing at his awkwardness until he heard her. A loud, unashamed laugh. She was laughing at him! He peered at her from under the umbrella, and let out a small chuckle of his own.
He looked at her and he could finally see her behind her shy disguise.
And she was so- she was so………..
Irresistible.
I just hate backgrounds so much, so instead of making one I just took a picture of a lamppost, ran it through probably too many filters in Photoshop, and then drew on top of it.
And on the subject of cheating, This was already a sketch I had done a while ago, so nothing for my Adrinette Month Day 2 submission is original! Yay, cheating!
P.S. Unnecessary detail shots are unnecessary. Sorrynotsorry
Marinette lifted the umbrella a little higher, gave him a second of deliberation and tucked her arm around his, dragging him along. Adrien followed, feeling a bit like a child being guided by a parent. He felt that great something again, as he watched Marinette determined expression as she directed them to the school. Her arm was warm around his, and she was warm at his side, and the smile she gave him as they walked was warm, warm and safe.
Thunder rumbled and Adrien’s eyes widened.
Oh.

Rainy Day Man
A Miraculous Ladybug oneshot for Adrinette month. Marichat fluff, this time. I wrote it pretty quickly, but hopefully people like it.
Prompt: Rainy day
I listened to this song on loop while writing it. My feelings. The nostalgia.
Marinette wasn’t quite sure why she kept allowing this to happen.
Well, that was a lie. She knew exactly why she allowed Chat Noir to drop by her room every now and again.
It’d started accidentally. He’d fallen face first on her balcony during on of his solo patrols and she’d gone to check out the ungodly crash at eleven at night.
After patching up a scrape on his cheek and chatting for a minute, she’d sent him on his way, thinking nothing of it.
Then he’d showed up a week later with a small pack of cookies as a ‘thank you’. Simple enough, she’d accepted them, they’d talked, he’d gone on his way.
Somehow that had led to him dropping by for a few minutes every couple of weeks, just to shoot the breeze, nothing major.
Marinette had considered several times to tell him this was a bad idea. That this was likely to be dangerous if Papillon caught wind of Chat Noir’s friendship with Marinette, or at least annoying if the media noticed. But for one thing, Marinette was also Ladybug and capable of taking care of herself, against Papillon and the media.
More importantly, however, every time she considered it he seemed to smile. Just a small quiet smile, not his cocky smirks. (It was odd how that smile tugged at the back of her mind in a sense of deja vu. Odder still how it tugged her chest, just a bit.) She’d seen that smile as Ladybug, true, but for some reason it hit harder during quieter moments, without the aftermath of adrenaline from battling an akuma.
He just seemed so...grateful. And she wasn’t really sure why.
So of course she allowed him to drop by occasionally. Just once or twice every few weeks.
So there they were, sitting i front of her computer with a pack of cookies , smothering their laughs so they didn’t wake Marinette’s parents.
“I can’t believe that’s how Victor fell in love with Yuuri,” Marinette said. “It so cute. Those adorable idiots. I don’t believe it!”
Chat Noir had an arm draped over he shoulders, snickering. “It’s perfect. All that time Victor seemed unapproachable to him. And it turns out Victor fell for Yuuri while he was drunk at a party! I love this show.”
Now that the episode was over, however, Marinette caught the constant tapping on the windows. “Uh, Chat Noir? I don’t suppose your baton has an umbrella mode?”
He followed her gaze. “Crud. No. No, it doesn’t,” he sighed. “It extends to near infinite lengths, makes tracking devices, splits in half, scans buildings and creates accurate schematics, and acts as a video communicator. But it doesn’t have an umbrella attachment.”
It slices, it dices... Marinette thought. Then she stood and walked over her drawers, shuffled around for a few moments, pulled out an umbrella. “Here, don’t want you going home looking like a drowned cat.”
He snorted. “I’ll be fine. You know I’m not actually a cat, right? Water doesn’t bother much.”
“I know. But it’ll make me feel better. Don’t want you catching a cold,” she smirked, just a bit. “What would Ladybug do without you watching her back?” She meant it, too. She could take on akuma by herself, but it was much simpler and safer with him than without him.
He took the umbrella with a nod, then seemed to stare at it for just a moment.
“A dear friend let me borrow it; so I’ll need it back, okay? I’ve got to return it to him sometime.”
Then he did that smile again. “No problem. See you next week for the next episode?”
“Duh. You bring the soda, I’ll make sure we have snacks.”
“Got it!” Then he climbed out the window with a thumbs up and leapt into the night.
Marinette really hoped the rain let up before morning.
She still hadn’t gotten another umbrella.
Adrinette Month Day Two
When it’s raining outside, invite your cat in and provide him with a blanket so he’s warmed and loved. However, be aware he may respond with cuddles.
A Little Rain- Adrinette Month Day Two
It's cold, and he feels like he's going to be sick. The rain pours down, and where it hits his hands (and his stomach, don't forget) it runs red.
"Chat..." she murmurs, wrapping her arms around him as he lies on the ground. "I..."
"Don't say it."
"But Chaton-"
"Don't say it!" He breaks away from her grasp, and he isn't crying, it's the rain, he isn't crying, and neither is she. "Tell me when you mean it, not... not when you think I'm..."
She cringes back, and he feels bad for a moment... but he's not dying, he can't be dying. What a stupid thought. He's taken so many attacks for her, magical and physical, there's no reason this knife would be any different. If she says something now, and he lives, she'll regret it, and he doesn't want that.
"I'm going to be fine. I... need a hospital, but..."
She nods, pulling out her communicator and calling. "Hi, this is Ladybug. Yes, Ladybug. Not a prank call, I don't have time for this! Chat's bleeding out in front of me! Send an ambulance! In front of the park, by Gottlieb. Please..." her voice breaks. "Hurry."
The rain pours down, and it's the rain that makes him feel so cold, not the loss of blood, the way his Lady is looking at him. Just the rain. It's so, so cold... "Are they coming?"
"As fast as they can," she promises, reaching out and holding him in her arms. "You'll be okay, you're going to be fine, they'll sew you up and give you a transfusion and you'll be just fine."
"I know," he lets his eyes drift shut for a moment. Rainy days always make him tired, it's true, that's why he feels like he could just... fall asleep... in her arms... it would be so nice...
"Chat! Chat, wake up!" she screams, and he forces his eyes to open for her. He has to stay awake, she needs him here. "Chat, you can't sleep, ok-kay? You can't."
He nods, and the rain feels hotter, at least, a few of the drops that land from her face to his. They can't be tears though, just raindrops. She never cries, and she has no reason to cry, since he's going to be fine.
The sirens are loud, and bright, and he finds himself being pulled from her arms, and put on a cot. He hears her yelling, "I'm staying with him, you have to let me stay with him!" She sounds so far away...
The needle pricks his skin, and he laughs at the idea that such a tiny pinprick used to scare him so much. He's even more tired now, but fights to stay awake. She told him to...
"It's okay," her voice comes to him, as beautiful as an angel. "It's okay, Chaton..." Her words are so comforting, but she sounds like she's crying. "You can sleep. You're going to be fine."
He smiles at the words, and murmurs to of his own. "Hold me?"
She complies, hugging him carefully, gently, and he slowly lets himself fall asleep to her heartbeat, and the patter of rain outside the ambulance window.
...
The morning rainbow is beautiful from the hospital bedroom, but to Ladybug, the sight of electric green eyes fluttering open is a thousand times more so.
"Chat!" she gasps, running to his bedside and flinging her arms around him. "Oh, god, Chat... I thought... I thought..."
He groans slightly, but returns the hug. "A little rain isn't going to take this cat down."
She laughs through her tears, and kisses his cheek softly. "Rain will never stop us."
