I always tell people that if hearing people (people who can hear) have access to audio, then Deaf people should have access to captions. But, if somebody doesn’t want captions or disables them, they shouldn’t have the audio on either, or disable the audio (muting). The same goes for when people can access a building or place by stairs; there should also be a ramp for wheelchair users. But if anyone complains, then remove the stairs and put up a wall. It is all about being fair and ensuring equal access for everyone.

Participation, community engagement differs primarily in the divergent roles that community members and public decision makers play. Community engagement requires intentional interactions between communities and public decisions!
