WITH BEACON HILLS POLICE Derek gets a job from sheriff Stilinski and he’s really excited to be a cop because he’s wanted to since he was very little but that dream kind of died out along with his family. Derek strutting around the loft in his uniform for Braeden who thinks that it looks very good on him but also very good coming off him. Derek drinking coffee even though he doesn’t like it and going on patrols with Jordan Parrish when he and Jordan drive past a group of teens at the park Derek can smell the weed even without his werewolf senses and he asks Parrish if they should be arresting them or something but Parrish just waves it off and says to let kids be kids and Derek is very excited because he realizes that not only can he be a cop but a very cool cop too.

AS A LIBRARIAN Derek had been visiting the library ever since he got back to beacon hills and one day saw a small Hiring sign at the front desk and decided to go for it the old ladies working there recognize him and give him the job on the spot. He’d never admit it and would claim that working there is only a source of income but he loves everything about the place to bits. The old ladies adore him and make sure that he’s well fed and gets presents on his birthday. He gets to read and learn so much and at the same time he can threaten people who’re being loud in the library. On several occasions other pack members catch him in a vicious argument with a teenage girl about which Harry Potter or Hunger Games book is the best, only to have him just laugh it off and insist that it’s all part of a day’s work

AT A PET SHOP Derek Hale being able to walk into a pet store for the first time without every animal inside going crazy and he falls in love. Every day he takes a different puppy or kitten home and whenever one of the gang comes over they’ll get fur all over them but they can’t complain because they don’t know the last time Derek’s been so happy. Derek naming every single creature in the store from fish to birds to cats to dogs and when small children come in to the shop and try to name one of the animals Derek quietly objects and informs them that every animal already has a name much cooler than ‘Spot.’ Derek Hale laughing at Scott or Liam when the animals freak out when they enter the shop and will only be quiet once Derek asks. Derek being lost in thought over some problem while absentmindedly stroking a kitten’s ears that is notorious for hating everyone else

AS A GYM TEACHER Derek Hale being nervous on his first day of school and straightening his tie every forty-five seconds. Derek being introduced as Mr. Hale to a class of people he thinks he’s never met before until he hears Stiles’ laughter from the back of the room. Derek eating lunches with coach after Finstock mistakenly tried to recruit him for the lacrosse team. Derek helping coach the basketball team and starts blowing his whistle at the pack when they do something stupid. Derek Hale sitting in on classes whenever he can because he likes to learn. The number or girls taking PE increases dramatically during the first semester until they realize that Derek is even worse than Finstock when it comes to making sure that everyone is fit and to quote what he keeps accidentally telling his students, “Battle ready”
