#adapting patterns

And nobody has ever given me a satisfactorily mathematical answer so I can figure this out.

If anyone IS or KNOWS a person who does this regularly can you PLEASE help me out here? I’m trying to make a wide-patterned bracelet into a belt, essentially. As the pattern doesn’t even say a base string length to start with, I really have no Idea what to calculate, and am just sitting here wide awake with a lap full of embroidery floss.
