When he brings the older man back to his hotel he expected something entirely different than Ardyn dissociating in his bedâat least he thinks that Ardyn is dissociating. Itâs textbook, really. If thereâs one thing Gladiolus has learned in his ample times rendezvousing with people to fuck, itâs that things often donât go as planned, but they usually donât go this bad for him. Geez.Â
Gladiolus scratches at the back of his neck when Ardyn presses his face into Gladiolusâ thigh. Heâs probably looking for something to ground himself with and the things Gladiolus would usually offer arenât readily available. No ice to chew on. Thatâs usually helpful, but not so much when youâre in a cheap shitty hotel room. Gladiolus runs his fingers through Ardynâs hair before pulling the cheap blanket over Ardynâs shoulders.
âHey, uh, I think youâre dissociating. Iâm gonna try to help, okay? Just keep listening to the sound of my voice, all right?â He keeps stroking his hair in no strict pattern, trying to keep himself from doing anything too repetitive. Noâthat might make things worse.Â
He sings a song he used to study tooâhe imagines his voice isnât as calming as the singerâs, but itâs all he got so itâll have to do. All the while he strokes Ardynâs hair, calloused fingers brushing through untamed locks.
âWe'll bathe often in light of the moon
We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
We'll bathe often in light of the moon
We'll sew clothes from the stem of our womb
Oh, my sweet fairy
The past is strong, strong, strong
Touch not my bosom for I'll not get far, far
Color your cartography in your dreams of me
Maps will not lie, will not lie, will not lie in me
Grow into gardens, the caverns you found in me
Heal off the weightless you held from the start of me â
