Can I please try to explain something in a non-malicious way?? I’m not secretive about not shipping Rey and Kyle, and I’m genuinely not trying to ruin anyone’s dreams here, but ya’ll are truly reaching when you say that the stunt in the teaser is something that they are practicing simply because the way the sky looks varies from shot to shot.
I’ve been studying film production for the past four years. I just got done shooting a film. My main focus is in editing though, so I have a pretty decent understanding in how films are shot and how they come together. When you film outside, the sky is a fucking problem because of how quickly it can change. It changes a LOT. It could be completely clear and then clouds roll in and mess with the shot continuity. It could be sunny and then clouds roll in and fuck with the lighting. The sun changes position and changes the light quality. The sky is a fucking problem, but because the sky is so rarely the focus of the shot, the continuity errors are not something that are perceived as a major problem. Because when you see Rey doing a sick flip over a spaceship that’s racing towards her, you’re not looking at the sky, you’re looking at her. The slight continuity errors in the clouds and light are therefore overlooked by the audience and not considered important enough to fix in post. You’re only going to notice if you go looking for it.
So basically what I’m saying is, they did a bunch of takes of this scene. They did multiple shots from multiple angles, which means multiple set-ups, which means a lot of time, which means it could have taken days to shoot this scene with these kinds of stunts. The sky changes my dudes. It’s not going to look exactly the same between set ups over the course of multiple days, and in the best takes of some shots the sky could have looked one way, but completely different in the best takes of a different shot. They’re more concerned about the best takes of the action than whether or not the sky matches exactly because, like I said, the sky is not the focus of the shot.
I swear, I’m really not trying to be malicious with this, and sure, there could be a chance that I’m wrong, and this is totally them practicing this stunt. I can admit when I’m wrong, and if I am then I’ll do just that. But I genuinely think you’re going to end up disappointed if you make this your main argument against what this scene clearly appears to be, which is Kyle trying to kill/maim Rey with his ship.
