It seems to me like the general fandom just doesn’t care about Gwen. Unless they’re shipping her with Morgana or Lancelot (or sometimes even Merlin), they simply pass her by in favour of Merthur. It upsets me to see that people view her as less important than the Merthur ship, since she’s always been such an important part of Arthurian lore, but it really doesn’t affect how I portray her. I play Gwen how I’ve always thought of the Once and Future Queen: a strong, kind, caring, beautiful woman who was a warrior in her own right and a Queen in her own right and truly was Arthur’s heart. And if anyone disagrees with me, they’re perfectly welcome to their opinion.
