Doing another OC redesign, with another lore nonsense bio to go with it.
Achromotes are extra-dimensional beings. The name does not specifically apply to any one species, but all organisms with their trademark ability to "eat color". Their intelligence and body shape can range from animalistic to humanoid.
The more magical element of this is that the "color" that they drain is not just the actual color of objects, but also the emotions of living things. When an Achromote fully drains the color of a living thing out of hunger, the victim is left in an emotionless haze that takes years to recover from normally. However, more intelligent Achromotes have the ability to drain individual emotions/colors and even permanently re-wire the psychology of others.
I'm not fully certain on this updated design, but I don't mind it either. Elements like the shadow hair, eyes, skull head, and long fingers I want to keep constant. But other things like the level of skeletal-ness, face shape, back spikes, and ink bottle icon I'm not sure of.
In-universe, the Achromotes entered the universe around the start of the 20th century, draining all the color from the defenseless dimension and its inhabitants. From spending so long in a world drained of color, the afflicted inhabitants of Earth changed from lethargic depression to manic fervor. Only in the 1930s, after a group of valiant individuals found out how to beat the Achromotes back, did the world return to having color in it.
