"I have to go mum. I just need to get away from this place."
"But your family is here. I'm here. Liv. Evie!"
Aaron nodded.
"I know. Which is why I need to not be here for a while. I just... need a break from the family drama. From everything." He sighed. "Liv and I are just sniping at each other all day and I just... I can't do it anymore."
"But this is your home." Chas tried again.
"It's not. Not anymore. It hasn't been the same since Robert... " He paused to try get rid of the sudden lump in his throat. "Since Robert got sent down."
Chas' face fell, realising her son had been unhappy for that long.
"I just don't like the idea of you out there all alone..."
"I won't be alone... I'll be with Adam."
"Adam? Do you know where he is?" Cain, who'd been quietly watching them say goodbye, suddenly asked.
"Yeah... We've been talking. Texting. He's waiting for me."
"Where?"
"I can't tell you. It's not safe." Aaron said resolutely. "But... you can tell Moira he's alright."
"He can tell her himself. If he's talking to you, he can talk to his mother." Cain pushed.
"I'll... I'll see what I can do." Aaron promised and opened his car's driver's side door. "Well... this is it." He took one last look at the mill. The home he'd built with Robert was now just another building. Just bricks and mortar.
"I'm going to miss you." Chas wrapped her arms around him and squeezed him tightly.
"I'll miss you too." Aaron mumbled, tears rolling down his cheeks. He knew he had to get away but it was still hard saying goodbye to his mother, not knowing when he'd see her again.
Chas held him for a few more minutes kissed his cheek before pulling away and making room for Cain.
"Take care of yourself out there. Don't do anything stupid." Cain said, pulling him in for a quick hug and patting him on the back. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do.”
Aaron gave him a watery grin.
"That means I can do anything then."
"Oi! Cheeky." Cain good naturedly slapped him on the back of the head and pushed him towards his car. "Get out of here."
He got in the car, put his seatbelt on and the key in the ignition, and rolled down the window to get a final look at his mum and uncle.
"I'll be alright, I promise."
Chas nodded.
"Just... call or text every now and then yeah? Let me know you're still alive."
"I will." Aaron told her and started the engine. "Goodbye mum. Bye Cain." he turned the car onto Main street and drove out of the village, glancing at his mum and Cain in his rear view mirror until he turned left and they disappeared from view.
He switched the radio on to keep him company on the long drive to Adam's place and smiled to himself when Make You Feel My Love was playing.
He thought of the rings packed away in his bag in the little velvet box they'd come in, and the happy memories the song brought back.
He'd told himself that's what he would try to do from now on, focus on the happy memories instead of everything he'd lost.
Like kissing Robert in the middle of the night outside Vic's house, when he finally got him back after thinking he'd lost him to some pretty boy in a club.
Without thinking he'd driven down a little country lane and pulled over when he noticed where he was.
The lay-by. Their lay-by. The place where it had all begun all those years ago.
He could almost feel Robert's lips on his, the smell of his cologne, or the way his leather jacket creaked under his touch.
A smile spread over his face as he relived that moment, and the others that had followed.
Suddenly the sound of a car horn snapped him back to reality and he scrambled to turn the engine back on to get out of the way.
The person in the car behind him sounded the horn again and Aaron swore under his breath.
"Alright, alright. Give me a second, you twat."
He heard a car door open and close and glanced in his mirror to see what was going on. The last thing he needed was to get into it with some prat with road rage.
"Adam?!"
"Hi bro!" Adam said happily.
"What are you doing here? I was supposed to come to you in France!" Aaron said, getting out of the car.
Adam shrugged.
"Slight change of plan."
"Are the police on to you?"
"Of course not." Adam scoffed. "I just thought I'd stop by and see my mum while I was in the area anyway. A lot has happened while I was away, hasn't it?"
"What... How? Why are you here? It's too dangerous."
"She was out in the fields with the cows, it's fine." Adam waved his comment away. "I drove here. Got the ferry from France, took a little detour to pick something up, and now here I am."
"I... I can see that... what did you have to pick up?"
"Your birthday present."
"It's not my birthday."
"I know. But I've missed a few haven't I? Got some catching up to do."
Aaron rolled his eyes.
"I really don't need make up birthday presents. I'm almost 30, not 5."
"You're going to like this though. You're going to love it." Adam said with that grin on his face that told Aaron he was up to something.
"Fine." Aaron sighed. "What is it?"
"Close your eyes." Adam ordered and Aaron reluctantly did what he was told.
"Hold out your hands."
"Adam I swear if it's something creepy and disgusting I will kill you."
He heard Adam laugh and a car door open and close and footsteps coming closer.
"You've called me a lot of things over the years but never creepy and disgusting." a familiar voice said while someone took his hands in their own.
Aaron's eyes flew open and he wondered if it was possible to be dreaming while wide awake.
"Robert?"
"Hey..."
"Happy birthday, mate!" Adam shouted happily.
"But... how?" Aaron asked, not daring to look away from the man standing in front of him.
"Adam got me out about a week ago."
"But you got 14 years."
"Time moves faster on the inside." Adam told them, but neither man looked at him.
"I'm out. I'm free."
"You're free? Really free?"
Robert nodded and squeezed Aaron's hand a little tighter, making him realise there was something in their joined hands.
He looked down and Robert turned his hand palm up and dropped a key on it.
"What's this?" he turned the key around in his hands.
"The key to my place in France." Adam explained. "It's yours."
"But... where will you go?"
"I'll be around. After a quick stop in Liverpool."
"Liverpool?" Aaron looked back and forth between Adam and Robert.
"Yeah, just thought I'd stop by and see my dear brother." Adam told him. "He's got something I need." He grinned and pushed himself off the tree he'd been leaning on. "I'll see you two crazy kids in a few days."
He got into his car and drove away, leaving Aaron and Robert alone in the lay-by.
"What just happened?"
"I've been wondering that for the past week... but it got me here so right now I’m not complaining." Robert said and gave him a small, hopeful smile, hands shoved deep into his pockets. "I've missed you."
"I... I've missed you too. But... I can't believe you're here. I didn't think I'd ever see you again." Aaron said, still trying to process what was happening.
"I don't know how he did it... One minute I was in my cell, the next Adam is in front of me, dressed as a guard, telling me to come with him. And then today he brought me here... to you."
Aaron finally let himself really look at Robert. His hair was longer and he looked tired... but most of all, still the Robert he fell in love with.
He put the key in his pocket and stepped closer to Robert, slipping his hands around his waist.
"I'm glad. I don't know how he pulled it off, but I'm glad he did."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. Life hasn't been the same without you. It just hasn't felt right." Aaron said moving his hand up to Robert's face and brushing his hair out of his eyes. He smiled and leaned in and pressed a small kiss to Robert's lips.
A kiss to say "I love you, I've missed you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you."

I though Ben breakdown/possible suicide attempt at first but now the attacks, I can’t see anything other than at least a Ballum Seperation and possibly Ben in jail!

There's nothing more certain than uncertainty, they say. Well maybe death but anyways, something is definitely going on! There was all that Mackenzie almost criminal, flirty activity. It seemed that even Danny was into that stuff etc but suddenly it stopped. Out of the blue. Apparently all this time there was some Emmerdale Benron spin off that we didn't see. The story about true love and friendship. Thank god we are finally blessed to see the outcome: Aaron choosing plotdevice Ben over ROBERT.
But why this must happen now? Could it be Robert?

I've read my fair share of soap dictionary and this has chapter "major characters grand return" written all over it. We just need to be patient.

Ok. Let’s just say Ryan/Robert is on his way back to Emmerdale.

1) Within a couple of years, I reckon. 50th anniversary return anyone?
2) In a perfect world, it’ll be found out that Luke killed Lee instead and Robert is innocent, thus setting him free. Or, he gets a reduced sentence due to good behaviour and is released early on time served. OR a lawyer goes back and looks over his case, realizes that the legal precedent was bullshit (first degree murder? really?) and overturns his conviction, meaning he’s only serving time for GBH instead of murder and he gets out early on time served.
Or maybe he escaped!! Not likely though.
3) I’d love a proper mental health storyline for Robert, and wedding 3.0 eventually! But that’s not the whole point of a reunion and it shouldn’t be. Maybe they eventually find a surrogate who will accept them despite their histories and criminal records and they finally get the baby girl they always wanted so much.
I can’t believe how perfect that was in so many ways! What was you favourite part! For me it was everything! From “Lexie’s going to kill you” to the double “will you marry me!” Not to mention “my other daddy!)

It was a teen au where Robert found a runaway Aaron in a barn at the farm. Basically I tied myself up in knots trying to make the plot fit where I wanted ti to end and it got so convoluted that I wouldn’t get it done in time.
But maybe I’ll go back to it. I’m going to try and do something short instead just so I’ve done the 7 days lol
