One thing I didn’t know was about the Maroon settlements (like Accompong) in Jamaica that Hurston talks about in Tell My Horse, and that’s as a Jamaican. I feel like Maroons always felt to me like people of the past, and I’m very much realizing that’s not the case and that they have isolated communities in Jamaica.
