A sweet new addition to our #caturday library. 

Accessioning gives the curator a first look at a new acquisition. Often, it’s the first opportunity to find hidden treasures inside books, such as drawings, inscriptions or ephemera tucked between pages. Sometimes it’s just as exciting to see a kitten illustrated on the cover. 

Back in July I had a bit of a month of reading poetry, enjoying some wonderful books from Andy & Vally Miller, Nora Iuga and Simon Armitage. Verse has rather gone by the by since then, but whilst rummaging in the stacks I came across a couple of slim collections I thought it would be interesting to read. One, “Then Spree” by Nia Davies, was a recent purchase from lovely Salt, the indie publisher…

Sometimes people just come up with great product ideas and this is definitely one of them. The Anylock Fingerprint Padlock is the smart and easy way to secure just about anything. It's weather resistant, can hold up to 10 different user prints and offers up to one-year battery life. To use it, you simply flip open the bottom corner and touch your finger to the pad. It's that easy. What we like about it is the portability and multitude of options that it provides. Lock up your storage, outdoor shed, garage, gate, bike, truck bed toolbox, just about anything you typically would secure. It can be paired with a cable or used alone. And the company is offering two types of lock - one standard size and one for a smaller bag. This makes great use for traveling, or even securing a locker. With the ease and functionality of this product, we're already looking around for things we could use it on.

Why are there so many collections in a collection?

We have over 1,300 objects in the museum collection at the National Sporting Library & Museum.  Those objects can be broken down into three categories of collections: permanent, study, and loan collections.  Regardless of which collection an object belongs to, the motto is the same: we treat all objects with the same care and attention.
