This one is a “C” rank, but it’s honestly a soft ranking. Typically, pokémon that get this rating are naturally aggressive towards humans, or far too big to be manageable as a pet, or have environmental needs that are difficult for pet owners to accommodate. Accelgors, as it happens, fit into none of these categories. Accelgors would make a fine pet in some cases where their owner is willing to invest in training, specifically because the main drawback here is their formidable… and I mean formidable… moveset. Let’s get into it.

Like I said, accelgors are a fine size, if maybe on the larger end, to be a house pet. At a little over two-and-a-half feet tall and fifty-five pounds, an accelgor won’t be the easiest pet to get around, but they will be able to get around inside human spaces just fine. As for their environmental needs, all that you need to account for as an accelgor owner is maintaining a space for them to remain moisturized and avoid drying out. Since accelgors shed their shells when evolving from shelmets, they no longer have a natural protection against drying out and must wrap themselves in layers of membrane to maintain their moisture (Black, White, Black2/White2, Y, Alpha Sapphire, Shield). If you live somewhere with a notably dry climate, it may be more difficult for you to keep a accelgor happy and healthy, but by no means impossible if you provide them with mist machines and humidifiers in certain spaces in your home. The good news is that if you are able to provide a proper environment, accelgors are quite easy to care for. Their Hydration ability can let them heal from poisoning, paralysis, and other effects in the rain (and they can heal themselves at any time with the Recover move, so long as they are healthy enough to do so).

Accelgors are skilled, lightweight fighters (White, X, Omega Ruby, Sword, Shield), but there is no indication that they are openly hostile towards humans. In fact, since they are known to be popular mascot characters in movies and comic books across the world (Sword), one must intuit that it isn’t immediately dangerous for children to interact with a well-trained, properly socialized accelgor. Ensuring that you spend time and resources on training one will be essential, since in the event of an attack they are exceptionally dangerous.

From physical attacks like Body Slam and Swift, to nutrient-draining attacks like Mega Drain and Giga Drain, to poisonous moves like Acid, Acid Spray, and Toxic, there are many ways for an accelgor to cause a human harm. Thankfully, though we must always keep in mind the possibility of an accident (hence the “C” ranking), none of accelgors’ abilities are inherent to their physical presence. What I mean by this, for example, is that while they have poisonous abilities, one cannot be poisoned just by touching them.
