#about complexity

Echa: Why complexing something in order to solve something else?

Dewi: Because our mind works in a complicated mode?

Dewi: I have no idea. But then again, human will always complicate themselves hahaha

Echa: It's just today I had a guest lecturer from USA. He talked about complexities. In his essay, he did mention something about bias for valuing complexity, e.g. we like to use complicated worda without knowing exactly what they mean.

Echa: And in his lecture he said that society grows from simple to complicated. This complexity grows to solve problems concerning the scarcity of resources (such as oil)

Echa: Say, you will always say a hunter gatherer society is a simple society, but agricultural society is a complex one. Why do they start acrigulturing (is that even a word?)? It's to solve the problem of the scarcity of animals, we start to domesticate and plant things. Therefore we need a social differentiation, a "planting class" and those who do something else.

Echa: In simple explanation like that, I will normally get it. However, when you relate that to current society, how more complicated can you become to solve our scarcity of resources?

Dewi: So it's all about resources for everyday life? The complexities?

Dewi: I believe technology had made us more complicated each day. Remembering that this is an era of advanced capitalism. If yesterday it's all about agriculturing (let's make it a word haha), then industry and so on, well I guess this is a much more very complicated age

Dewi: This current society already njelimet cha, I can't imagine what will be more complicated than this.

Echa: Ya tapi ntah gw bloon ato keras kepala, masih ga mudeng aja gimana complexity bisa menyelesaikan masalah. Di mata gw nambah ribet iya. Krn dia tadi contohnya fuel melulu, klo banyak aktivitas sampingan brarti kan banyak fuel yg dipake jg. Kecuali klo ada inovasi ke sustainability (emang nyasarnya ke situ sih?). Namun masalahnya balik ke ternyata energi yg sustainable itu usaha utk dapetnya dibanding usaha yg dihasilkan, marginnya kurang semenguntungkan fossil

Dewi: Kalau berangkatnya dari generalisasi bahwa manusia pasti dari gatau jadi makin tau, sederhana jadi semakin rumit dan kompleks, kayanya itu berlaku di segala aspek, ga cuma soal fuel.. Contohnya budaya kan keliatan bgt pergeserannya dari jaman prasejarah klasik sampe kolonial dan islam. Kalau persoalan menuntaskan masalah dengan kerumitan, mungkin itu ga berlaku di segala aspek kali ya. Dalam menemukan solusi mungkin iya harus ribetisasi, tapi ketika udah ketemu solusinya ya biasanya jd lebih sederhana. Contoh gampangnya mungkin di bidang teknik elektro: ada perangkat elektronik rusak, trus kita harus bongkar komponennya satu2, disolder, dipasang lagi, diganti, diberantakin & dipretelin sblm akhirnya jadi bener lagi. Emang perlu "diberantakin" dulu dengan cara yg "ribet" supaya kembali jd baek haha. Tapi kalau diinget2 lagi dalam konteks "memperbaiki" atau "mengatasi masalah" sih kayanya memang apart from simple way. Iya ga sih? Coba pikir apa yg bisa dibenerin atau diperbaiki atau ditingkatin secara sederhana? Kayanya hampir ga ada hahaha

Echa: Masalah kayak di luar angkasa nasa bikin pulpen canggih yg bisa bikin astronot nulis di hampa udara. Rusia nemuin solusi yg lebih simpel: pake pensil

Echa: Bukan contoh yg bagus :|

Dewi: Hahahaha tapi bukankah utk mencapai si pensil, perjalanan rumit harus ditempuh terlebih dahulu? Lol
