The red panda Ailurus fulgens is native to the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China and is a rust red colour with a long fluffy tail. Red pandas are aboreal and feeds mainly on bamboo but also eats eggs, birds and insects. This nocturnal panda is classed as endangered with less that 100,000 mature individuals. The main threats to this panda are habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching and inbreeding.
