The Cwmbran fire service came to Able today to show the guys around their fire engine and let them use the equipment - our very own Able fire man Tim was thrilled. Everyone had a go dressing up in the official uniform, using the hose-pipe AND sitting in the engine to see all the buttons and gadgets! We all had a lot of fun :) - Arora.

As I get to know the individuals on a week-to-week, or day-to-day basis, they do or say something that makes me take a step back. Stuart brought in all of his medals this week to show us and it was really quite impressive how many golds and silvers he had, all for different sports too; shot-put, swimming, athletics etc. It was heart-warming how proud Stuart was of himself and how proud everyone here at Able was too!
Police cars and Pampering
It’s my 5th week here at Able which is mad! It’s gone so quick but I’m slowly starting to get to know all of the guys and becoming a part of the Able family.
Last week was an exciting one as we celebrated quite a few birthday’s, had a lady come in to do everyone’s nails (if they wanted them done of course) and our volunteer, Robin, who’s a policeman, brought in his police car, fingerprinting equipment and handcuffs for us all to have a bit of fun with. All the guys loved handcuffing John and pretending they were arresting him for drunk driving* and sitting in the police car pretending they’re on some mad police chase!
*Disclaimer: John hasn’t and wouldn’t drive whilst drunk
Leah, a volunteer, came in to do nails ready for ‘Annie the production’ a few of the guys were starring in and I think it helped settle their nerves a bit too as well as making them feel oh-so fabulous!

My name is Arora, it’s currently my 4th week here at Able Radio and I am loving it! I am a woman who believes my life purpose is to help people; I am a writer, poet, and artist who aims to help people through creativity and expression which is exactly what Able aim’s to do, so it works quite well!
The main purpose of Able Radio is to give our guys a voice, to help empower them and to give them the freedom to express themselves through many creative outlets in a safe, positive environment and you really can see the difference each week.
So, twice a week, starting this week, I will be telling the weird and wonderful tale of life at Able Radio and everything that goes on within our little family.

James, Kevin and Travis recording the Elvis Christmas show
Able moved into Nant Bran a year ago after refurbishing the old school site in Upper Cwmbran. We have opened our doors to many new users of our services from the disabled sector as well as many community organisations. Local charity CMIG has also offered an extended day service to clients from their accommodation within the original school building. The large creative space is now in use 7 days a week and is available for hire by community organisations.
