also a continuation of my posts abt malingering....one of the big things was that people should be suspected of malingering if they have something to gain from being ill/having severe symptoms
ie anyone seeking benefits, accommodation, financial compensation, etc
i was doing some reading about how malingering is determined and one of the things that really disturbed me is that signs of malingering apparently include:
not denying your illness/symptoms or history of illness/symptoms (ie people who are Actually ill will deny their illness and symptoms out of shame)
noncompliance
illness symptoms don't markedly improve with treatment
i'd be interested in hearing or reading from someone who knows more about it (particularly disability activists) but i looked up the process of determining malingering because of the relevance to the depp vs heard case (a professional was hired by depp's team to review documents and evaluate heard) and it really just seems like a political tool utilized to deny people disability benefits and accommodations more than anything else

recently been throwing around in my mind how entirely fucked up it is to point to other people's physical bodies as like....traumatizing in some way
it's something i started thinking abt a while ago when the whole discourse around tagging disabled people's bodies as like body horror was happening and something that i feel is relevant again with the bullshit wi spa transmisogyny incident
it really removes the fact that traumatization in this case is often about violation of boundaries
someone exposing themselves to someone else who doesn't consent isn't traumatizing because the victim has to see a specific body configuration
it's because their ability to say no was taken away from them
so like. if u do not want to see other peoples bodies, and you go into a space that explicitly not only allows nudity, but actually REQUIRES it, it's such bullshit to claim someone else's body in that space as a source of traumatization
you consented to being with naked people when you entered that space, regardless of their bodily configurations, and this narrative that just the mere sight of a penis is inherently traumatic sends such an incredibly dangerous fucking message
it's dehumanizing and disgusting
