All But Just Forgotten: An Excerpt
Because TFOM apparently wants to suck out my soul, I went back to some stories that truly need to be finished and posted.
LOG: 05-05-16, 17:50:31. MISSION: SKH-PERSONAL
With each passing day, The Demon had a dream.
Only, he wasnât entirely sure that was what they were. They were vivid, piercing, and every time he had one his skull burned. His mind would be seized in pain, stricken, similar to the way it slashed at him when Kagome demanded answers two days ago. It was all connected, somehow, but The Demon had never been on his own for this long before.
Nine days had passed since his missionâŚshifted.
The Demon sat on top of a rather large office building that was located across from Kagomeâs. She hadnât been going anywhere lately, not like she had in the beginning with those missions. Every time she left work, there was a small scowl on her face but her skin tone was healthier, eyes brighter. Rest did her good.
The ominous creak of rusty hinges forced him to take his eyes away from the adjacent building. A man in a business suit came out, cell phone in hand with a pack of cigarettes. It must have been his getaway place since the stairs leading to the roof were so rickety the assassin preferred to just jump over them. Â As of yet, the man hadnât noticed him.
He would live a little longer then.
The Demon continued to watch the people below, waiting for a familiar car to come out of the parking garage. It was strange, he noted, hands idly tapping at the edge of the building. M had been a constant, nightly presence â always ransacking his place and trying to capture him. Sometimes they sent a group of mercenaries, other times a single assassin. Some were more difficult to put down than others but in the end, no one was trained at M like he had been.
No one was like him. Period.
But in the past two nights, no one had come to try and steal him back. It was an anomaly.
âHey, man, what are you doing dressed like that?â
The Demonâs lips pursed, golden eyes remaining on the building ahead. âYou should go back inside.â
There was a small pause, then the footsteps started to get closer. Shame. âMan, youâre not supposed to be up hereââ
Whatever he was going to finish with, The Demon didnât give him the chance. He reached back and grabbed the humanâs arm, forcing him to tumble forward over his shoulder. The assassin grabbed his neck and snapped it. âShould have gone back inside.â
Humans were incredibly stupid.
He went back to watching for Kagome.
