and speaking as someone who had one leg paralysed and was ambulatory wheelchair user is now not fully paralysed but still a part time wheelchair user , he’s going to use a wheelchair probably anyway ending up in a wheelchair isn’t the end ,
But doing it with a functional leg is so much easier , it makes things like standing and bowel control and transfers and all that shit way easier ,
I’m not saying that prescription drugs don’t get abused
And I’m not saying disabled people don’t get addicted to their prescription drugs
But I am saying that if TV shows portrayed characters on prescription drugs using them correctly then maybe I wouldn’t have to field so many questions about whether I’m addicted to my medication.

Let's face it, a lot of Data's story is this anyways. Data even lets her choose her own gender at the start. She's just getting used to her human appearance. Children laugh at her, adolescents are whatever adolescents are. She's alone without friends, she manages to get one of the least respected jobs on the ship, and is struggling to learn mannerisms and conduct. Then Haftel shows up.
Haftel is convinced Data is parenting wrong, and refuses to acknowledge Lal as human, and tries to take her away for her own safety, as obviously allowing her to act human is irreparably damaging. Of course she has a panic attack, which of us wouldn't? But turns out ptsd is considered "failure", and she's given up on when it can't be solved with medication.
I've now managed to double the suckyness of the feels by bringing up that her demise was purely ableism, and that there are a good many people living full lives with just as much trouble with panic attacks.
