The King of Thieves had been awake long before dawn preparing for the journey ahead. His nerves hardly allowed him to sleep through the night. What thief could rest when they finally had a lead to a grand treasure? Of course, the aged bedouin couldn’t take all of the credit. He wouldn’t have known the general location of this ‘magical ring’ if it hadn’t been for an elderly (near deathly) beggar. He’d met the hunchback in a thieves’ den, not that he’d ever had approached the man himself. The old pauper came to him & rambled on about a genie trapped within a pharaoh’s ring. At first, Cassim thought he was delusional, but the more he entertained the stranger, the more he started to believe him. He spoke of tombs to the west that were in the process of being reclaimed by the desert itself. If they didn’t act quickly, their chance might be buried beyond retrieval. After the urgency had been pressed upon the greedy thief, he returned home the next day to share the news with his only son, Aladdin. It was worth noting that the information shared with him wouldn’t have been readily given by just anyone. The beggar said he’d only wished he had a young pair of legs & a strong back to carry him to the ring. Close to death, the king assumed he only wanted to help someone else find fortune before passing on himself. That was reason enough for Cassim. “Are you ready, Al?” He peeked his head into the Prince of Thieves’ quarters. “The horses are waiting, son.” The rest of their syndicate didn’t know exactly where they were going or WHY, only that they weren’t invited. A few days without their leader & the golden boy around wasn’t exactly a bad idea to them. They could return to their heinous ways without any retribution until their return. Whenever that would be, nobody knew. Not even Cassim. He never wanted to return from any venture unless he had something to show for it.
