Pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose, Julian squinted as subtly as possible in the direction of the boy an aisle down from him. The stranger was wearing a Jason Voorhees shirt – of this, Julian was absolutely certain. He’d seen Friday the 13th more times than he could count, and he’d recognize the killer’s iconic hockey mask from a mile away.
Sidling over in the direction of the mystery man, Julian thumbed through a few vinyls absentmindedly and peered at him through his peripheral vision. He already felt awkward enough standing so close to a stranger, but he really did like the shirt, and the his taste in music. Plus, Danny had always told him that genuine compliments brightened people’s days. With this in mind, he decided to take the leap and speak up.
Clearing his throat slightly, Julian finally turned to face the taller boy to his right and spoke softly. “I like your shirt. Camp Crystal Lake, right? I don’t meet many fellow horror fans around here.”
